How To Build a CRAFTSMAN BUNGALOW Like a Nerd - In-Depth Sims 4 Building Tutorial

The Arts and Crafts movement responsible for bringing Craftsman homes to American soil stood against the dehumanizing Industrial Revolution as well as the over decorated Victorians that were most popular among the wealthy at the time, and the humble Craftsman Bungalow quickly became a beloved style among the working class, even becoming the most popular home style from 1905 into the 1920s. They were made even more accessible through whole housing kits available for purchase through the Sears Catalog, which is why you may find yourself driving through streets of house after house that are all slightly different variations of the Craftsman Bungalow in areas that grew quickly though an economic boom around 1910-1940. Hallmarks of this architectural style include earthy colors and textures, partially open floorplans with easy access to kitchen and living spaces alike, low pitched roofs, large decks, and lots of well crafted wooden windows, arches, doors, and more. I have literally NEVER done that combo before but I'm never going to not use it now! I love how it turned out, especially since so many details like that are usually so difficult to translate from real life to Sims-land.

Great tute thanks. I also find it interesting that for you a bungalow isn't single story. Here in the UK a bungalow is a single story property. It might have later had a loft conversion, but bungalows will have started as single story.

If there is one thing I have learned on my architectural journey, it's that there are a lot of rules and Americans like to break them. Traditionally a Bungalow would/should be no more than one and a half stories, like you see here, but if some bungalow aspects are incorporated into other styles they may still carry the name "bungalow" even if that is no longer the most accurate description. If I remember correctly I found in my research for this video a "three story bungalow" which was the "largest bungalow in the US" and I was just like, why 😭

I've watched these builds/tutorials a lot. It's always the roof and its trim for some reason. Maybe that's architecture 101, maybe it's just Sims 4

For some reason my stairs are longer than yours. They stick out one extra square so they’re not even with the wall to the left - just the sort of small detail to exasperate my OCD. 😅 If anyone has advice on how to fix this, I’d appreciate it. (I’m using a Mac.)

A whole tile? Or just one more step? The one more step would be weird, and suggest a platform was in play (either +1 at the top or -1 at the bottom) or different stairs have different step counts per tile (which I doubt due to animation problems), but if it's a tile it could be you're using a different wall height or the wall is a tile short. I don't have OCD but it would definitely drive me nuts as well. I do have an article for this build on Tumblr now, so if you want that might be a good way to double check the lengths of walls? Instead of scrubbing through the video? Those are the only reasons I could think of.
