Great video. I really like seeing bin setups that aren’t so barren.I initially was skeptical when I saw they weren’t oriented upright but it looks like plenty of climbing space for a juvenile.

Thank you! They really do work well! I have since made a few bigger bins for some adults to be in while I work on their vivariums. They are all doing very well. I definitely spend a little bit more to make sure they have lots of enrichment and are comfortable. Now I use coco fiber substrate in them as well.

Thanks for the ideas. If you're having a hard time with the hot glue sticking to plastic tubs, I've found that using 100% silicone works well. It takes a lot longer to set but once it does, it's there for the duration.

Any tips on getting your baby to eat. I could be overthinking it but he doesn't seem to like the Pangaea or evne repashy. He will eat it but i have to put it in there every day and after like the 4 or fifth day he'll eat some. He used to eat it more regularly. He loves dubias though he'll devour like seven of them at a time

Thanks for the video!! I have one question, what did you do for the heat? I am planning to use a heat pad since my place does tend to be pretty cold. Will that be okay with the plastic bins?
@greatnorthreptiles105
@greatnorthreptiles105 3 жыл бұрын
I am not sure if a heating pad would work. I just keep my gecko room above 70 degrees. I would suggest putting the bin in a room in the winter and purchasing a space heater with a thermostat just to keep the room from getting too cold.

@@greatnorthreptiles105 cool . I I unfortunately have two female cresties that have lived together for 9 years straight without issues... now one is fighting the other and i need to separate. @greatnorthreptiles105
@greatnorthreptiles105 3 жыл бұрын
I have actually just added bioactive substrate with CUC to a few on my bins. It has been about a month and so far so good! Without plants to water, I don't think a drainage layer is necessary. At least in my experience so far.

It came out realy well and ty for making this video its helping me a bunch. I did have some questions first what kind of mesh is used for the vent hole and also how are you handling heating ? currently i have low watt heat tape below mine but its just not cutting it for temp and im afraid of melting the plastic especially if i have eco earth or a substate which makes raising the temp even harder.
@greatnorthreptiles105
@greatnorthreptiles105 3 жыл бұрын
I don't use supplemental heat for my geckos. I keep an ambient room temp of 69-75 degrees. No heat needed. A heating pad will not heat the tank. It would only provide a warm spot for the gecko to lay on. Which created geckos don't typically need or use.

what do you use for heat?
@greatnorthreptiles105
@greatnorthreptiles105 4 жыл бұрын
Crested Geckos do not require heat. They are happy when temperatures are 68-80 degrees. So room temp here is fine.

@greatnorthreptiles105
@greatnorthreptiles105 4 жыл бұрын
@@migueldiaz848 50 degrees would be too low. I would use a glass tank instead of a bin and put a small heat mat on the side controlled by a thermostat. Hermit crab heat meats would great. But you may need more than one. You can also research low heat ceramic emitters. At night you don't want the tank to above 75 degrees.

Hi - good video - can I ask if you think you really need to drill those holes when you have the big mesh vent - also are you worried about the sharp edges of the mesh cutting the geckos?
@greatnorthreptiles105
@greatnorthreptiles105 4 жыл бұрын
The mesh is just a screen that is super soft, so the geckos can not be cut by it. And yes, here in the summer it would be too humid without the holes. It also helps with ventilation. Depending on the climate you live in would determine how you would set up your ventilation.

I'm currently having a disagreement with my 16yo daughter whom thinks it's necessary to have an expensive glass tank. That needs a sturdy table to hold it. While I'm trying to convince her, that a tub will work just a good, for way less... and nowhere near as heavy.

so you should say that u dont take geckos in there for ever but for a short amount of time till they can get into a real enclosure, people might think thats how a gecko can life without a problem..... they need space to jump and walk around and they need much more space overall.... i just hope no one does this to their animals.... cause survinving something doesnt mean its lifing
