I don't agree with starting from the house but reverse. You should start from the end of the deck toward the house. Use Protect tac tape waterproof and cover joists and use behind ledger board.

I build decks for a living. This is actually one of the better built decks I have seen on KZfaq. I have seen so many How To build a deck videos that are terrible and some are unsafe. This deck is well built and would pass codes in probably every state.

For a Lowe's video I am surprised to see that the raw ends of the deck boards were left showing like that. And that could be serious trouble starting from the house. What do you do when the final board at the end of the deck is 3/4 of an inch.??

Good video...thanks! I saw you added angle brackets for rims and end joists corner. Did you remove those angle brackets when you installed corner posts? The video for corner posts installation looks no angle bracket.

@Straight0uttaCrofton
@Straight0uttaCrofton 3 жыл бұрын
@@jeffheinzelman4751 you would attach it to the frame the same way they attached their ripped board to their frame, by face-screwing it. the skinnier (ripped) board should be closest to the house. the ripped edge would be facing the house and not exposed. in the video they say that they're going to cover their ripped edge with a fascia board, but they never do, and never will because there is a 1" overhang. so installing a fascia board would only cover the rim joist, leaving the ripped edge and all of the cut ends exposed (including those parting boards). better solution for them would have been to frame the sides and front perimeter with non-grooved boards. they went to the trouble of installing those parting boards, may as well have gone the extra .2 miles.

i really need to get my deck fixed. A scammer came by, removed main deck flooring, did not bring to code, removed deck floors from upstairs and removed staircase from side guest house, collected $8000 and ran. Dale Curtiss Construction reported to licensing board. Any honest handyman with permit, license, bond, etc needed.

Before you even consider using a composite (garbage, glue, and sawdust) material like Trex get the manufacturer's pamphlet. Read every word on every page. It shouldn't take but about an hour. When you're finished if you're still inclined to use composite material I suggest you first go see a psychiatrist.

@@rjrpga standard blocking with 4x and 2x lumber sans those $10 brackets should work fine. for years people notched the posts and attached them to the outside of the rim joist with lag bolts. just carriage bolting the un-notched 4x lumber to the inside of the rim is a huge improvement in itself.
