There’s nothing quite like enjoying a BBQ or a drink outside on your deck, and it’s even more satisfying building a deck yourself.
Deck building might seem like a big project, but with the right planning up front and a step by step approach you can DIY with Mitre 10.
This guide will show you how to get the job done right.
You can also check out our online guide on how to design a deck here:

Based on the PDF file provided by brilliant team of Mitre10, there are four anchored piles on this deck at the corners. I wish you could explain their differences with normal piles in the video.

I really enjoyed watching your video very interesting as I'm building a deck at the moment myself for my dads house, I noticed that you put your posts straight in the post holes. In Australia the BCA requirements are that the posts must sit on anchors due to climate that may damage the timber however I just put them straight in with concrete just like you did because I realised it much stronger is there anything you can say about that. Thanks in advance friend

What’s the best way to fit end-joists if your confined by house wall on one side and retaining walls on two other sides? I.e. Can’t slide it over easy to nail end-joist into end of joist?
@mitre10nz
@mitre10nz 4 жыл бұрын
If you are restricted on space to nail through boundary joist into your joists, then it may be best to fit a right angle nail plate or or joist hanger from joists to boundary joist.

Hi I'm using this vid to build my deck. I have a question though. Im using a old deck that is cut in chunks roughly 3x1m. The chunks are the decking and joist. Was wondering what's the best stable way to run the piles and bearers? Horizontal or parallel to house.

I thought you couldn't bury your posts in the ground anymore because it encourages rot and had to slab and use anchors for your posts to slab.

You can still use piles, provided they're H5-treated. The rest of the deck uses H3.2-treated timber.
