Hello KZfaq! If you guys enjoyed this, please do check out my other videos of the farmhouse restoration - at the moment we're working on gutting and replacing an old rotten oak roof, far more exciting than concrete and insulation in my humble opinion... Also, please do subscribe to the channel, I'm posting twice a month at the moment but would love to ramp that up if people enjoy!

Been screeding over 30 years now, never laid a screed on bare insulation boards ever, polythene is cheap and will save you 20% UV value, as the cement destroys the reflective foil .Other than that , perfect video,thumbs up.
@z8Nation4 жыл бұрын
So you recommend putting a polythene sheet down before you cement on top of the insulation boards?
@purritan3264 жыл бұрын
@@z8Nation yes i have always put a barrier between cement and insulation boards, you dont have to tape board joints also it stops joints following through the screed, reducing cracking.

quick question - how would you run central heating pipes to radiators now the floor is concrete and walls solid brick? I noticed you had cut out sections in the insulation boards for electric cables - could you have done the same for running pipework (might be silly question)

Hello! What did you lay down as a dpc or something to stop the moisture barrier? I assume this is a true old building and it's solid walls would not have a barrier at the base layer. It would be great to explain the initial methods to the process. Have you done something to stop moisture from the base floor? Looks like you had some initial concrete layer before the thick insulation boards.

flooring and drywall is probably where I'll always leave it to it's own professionals, it requires a lot of experience, a diy person can do 90% of the work, but the last 10% is what gets noticed, my dad "used to say 20% money gets you 80% of the work".

@graceakinje49652 жыл бұрын
Good evening. After the screed how long to I need to wait before laying a laminated floor.
@Tom-Lahaye2 жыл бұрын
The job could have been improved by closing the gaps between the insulation boards with some gun foam and taping the joints of the top layer. Also a PE membrane should have gone on top to protect the aluminium foil, cement is caustic and reacts very well with aluminium, so it eats trough, the membrane also acts as a vapour barrier. You gave up on the cat exploring this big litter box 😂?

Hello. I noticed the house we purchased the extention attached to the house - the flooring does not have insulation. There is a membrane and 4" concrete on the floor. However is there an option i could insalate the floor before we decide to put either laminate or carpet down? Thanks in advance
@marcomarziani97162 жыл бұрын
Have a look at a German company called GUTEX, you'll need a membrane to stop moisture passing through, especially if the concrete slab is bridging and allowing moisture to pass through
@crissi5607 Жыл бұрын
You forgot to tape the joints of the insulation... It is a small detail but makes a huge difference in preventing leaks and vapor
