In this video, I show you how to set up a music studio at home for $500. This list has some of my favorite and most recommended gear including an audio interface, microphone, headphones, speakers (studio monitors), keyboard, and software. This music studio is excellent for producers, singers, songwriters, beatmakers, and for hip hop, R&B, trap, EDM, pop, rock, and pretty much every genre. If you're a singer or rapper, you'll love the microphone I've included too! This is the best music studio setup for $500 that I can recommend.

It's great to be an American, back home in Africa it cost amd arm and a leg. $500 is equal to R7 389,48 in South Africa which doesn't even buy a pair of proper studio monitors. You will need around R20 000 which is equivalent to $1353.28 for a decent amount of money for a budget studio.

I recommend Waveform 11 to any beginner artists/producers because it's free with plenty of killer features and it helped me understand the basics of music production. You can still make amazing music with cheap gear. It's about how you use the gear rather than what that gear is. Use it to your advantage

Like where I started with nothing I ended up spending $300 on an old MacBook that was plenty powerful enough and $2000 on equipment and instruments. Now saying that you have no computer first, realistically you could possibly only spend $500 on your setup if you were to go for a computer like the 2015 MacBook Pro and either a nektar impact g61 or akai mpk mini 3 depending on if you plan on playing virtual instruments or just sampling. Those two things could cost you around $320-$370 and you still got $180-$130 left to buy at least some speakers from Walmart or Amazon and another $100 to spend on a microphone and a stand with cables.

This is the fastest I've ever clicked on a video!! I'm myself surprised. lol. Love the videos, though!! Edit: I needed some advice. I'm interested in music production, mainly EDM and Pop, and am looking for a MIDI keyboard. I'm a bit torn between Arturia MiniLab Mk2 and Novation Launchkey Mini Mk3. Any suggestions?

I have the mini-lab MK2 and the software it comes with is AMAZING! It’s good quality has lots of functions and Analog lab has hundreds of synths and pianos, organs etc. I’d take the MK2

I have tried both of them and I like the Arturia better. But if you find a certain feature in the Novation that you find useful then go for it.I would say both of them are overall great keyboards and the choice is really up to you.

Just going to do a break down here, but I believe you've set a good budget - AKG P120 $179.00, AudioBox 96 - $179.00, Sony MDR7506 $199.00, though the ATH-M50x are regularly found for $189.00, Launch Key Mini MK3 - 189.00, Presonus Eris 4.5 $329.00 So total $1,075 which in Australia that's a pretty dope set up for the price. I started with AudioBox 96 but quickly moved on to scarlett, I think Sanjay has picked a pretty awesome line up - only thing I need to note is some of Izotopes bundled software with some of brands now require a iLok, and not iLok Cloud.

@@SanjayC No problems mate, at the end of the day I think a lot of these items are fairly decently priced for what they are to be honest, it's a very good setup I have the 4.5 Monitors and I use them more than my Krk's I haven't had a chance to use the microphone or the launch key though.

This is a really great budget setup. :) And let's be honest, if you really just want to make some music you don't technically need a microphone or a midi keyboard in the beginning. You can easily start off without and can save some money or spend it on different speakers, audio interface etc.

I would say I have spent close to £700-£800 on home studio both for Production & Vocal. Focus right interface(£90), Microphone(£59), Vocal screen(£81), M-Audio Oxygen Professional Keyboard(£215), monitors(£150). I would say that it is within a medium range for a studio, but I am also building a top notch PC as well which will increase costs as well.

@@SanjayC i9 Processor, at least 64gb Ram, 2 1tb SSD's, 1 2tb HDD, just a few specs. I'm thinking due to the amount of plugins/DAW upgrades/OS upgrades I'm thinking the PC will last at least 10yrs so will hopefully pay for it's self.

Hi Sanjay C, I've just discovered your channel and honestly, you're the best! I'd gather so much knowledge just by your videos, and you're very entertaining and pleasing to watch as well. Question here: Do I need both a speaker and a headphone? I'd imagined myself doing all the producing with just a headphone so why is it important to also include a speaker instead of cutting it? Thank you man, have a great day!
