Thanks for the share and instructions. In such a system, if we decide to do so, where should we place the aerator/air stone ? One end of the pvc pipe would suffice ?
@over60crafter
@over60crafter 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you.You can absolutely add an aerator the plants do even better when you do,you can drill a 1/4 inch old at the top of the pvc and pass it through and before you cap the system attach the air stone.

great video and not to complicated, great for a beginner to hydroponics. I was just wondering what is the best growing medium and fertilizer to use?
@over60crafter
@over60crafter 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks.To germinate the seeds I usually use a good quality potting soil then rinse it off before placing it in the system.I use hydroton to keep the seedlings from falling over plus it also helps to block the light from reaching the roots.I have links in the description for the nutrients that I use in the description.

I don't change out the water just top up until harvest,but if you run into any plant problems then you should change it out.Adding an air stone would increase the aeration and the plants seem to grow faster with one.

A question regarding filling / dowel measurement. You said to fill the pipe to an inch under your net pots, however you don't mention how long the plant's roots are... surely this formula isn't accurate if your plant's roots don't extend below the net pot? When doing a new planting with roots that are still inside the net pot, I typically fill my static ponds to half way up the net pot, that way some of the roots are submerged and part is exposed to air. Not sure if this is the best way (I defer to your expertise), but I seem to get good results.
@over60crafter
@over60crafter 3 жыл бұрын
I was assuming that the roots would be long enough to reach the solution.If however they are not fill it so that it does reach it,but you don't want to keep it like that once the roots grow out as if there is no space for air the roots will drown.

@over60crafter

Just raise the plant every 4 or 5 days to see the level and keep nutrient solution about 3/4 of an inch below the net cup as you don't want to drown the roots.

I am new to hydroponics. Do you have to clean this system between growing cycle? If yes, how do I reopen the system to clean it? How do you drain the water? Thank you
@over60crafter
@over60crafter 4 жыл бұрын
I would recommend that you clean out the system at the end of the growth cycle before inserting your next batch of seedlings. To open the system simply unscrew the screw on end cap,pull the open end so it protrudes out the edge of whatever you have placed it on and place a bucket below to catch the solution. Also it won't be that heavy to remove it to wherever you want to clean it out.

@over60crafter
@over60crafter 4 жыл бұрын
@@ethnieferguson8466 You don't need an air pump for this system,but if you find your plants aren't getting enough oxygen you can add one later on.I did not need to add one. An air stone sits inside the reservoir and is attached to the air pump which sits outside the reservoir,but as I stated before you don't really need one for this system.
