I am thinking of building a tank simpler to this one. My question is would you think making the back plywood as well as the bottom would work?

I can tell you this, I have learned so much! I have just purchased a 200 gallon aquarium and am eager to get it running for my fish. my latest tank is a 65 gallon tall so its a big jump into the 200 gallon arena I love the k1 media idea it seems so simple

This is grand! I also keep my discus in a bare-bottom tank. I planted cheap and easy plants in big terracotta pots with puddles. The fish loves it and I have less aggressive behaviour, they just swim in circles around the pots and stop when they don't see what they were chasing. Real easy to clean too. I could see this in the middle of your tank, do you have plans to add rocks or thrift wood? Can't wait to see your discus in there! awesome.

I had to watch this video... Again! Probably my favourite tank that you’ve made and would love to get the opportunity to do a similar tank myself when I one day get the room to. I really think you should look at doing this again in the gallery, maybe replace the 375? Would be a great entrance tank to the gallery!

If you get bored with the current set up, you should definitely try high-tech planted on a tank of that size. A field of aquatic plants would be stunning.

Thanks to this series; I’m inspired enough now to conquer my fear and build my 200 gallon saltwater glass aquarium L= 6 feet X W= 2 feet X H= 2.5 feet. (Using 12mm thick tempered glass) Im using PVC for the bottom of my tank, however, everything I read says silicone adheres poorly to PVC! Do you have any suggestions on what can I use to bond PVC to glass? How do I know that a potentially good adhesive is good for an aquarium build if it does not specifically say that it’s “Aquarium Safe!”

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I Love all your videos! Because of this series I'm now inspired to build a large glass tank with a plywood bottom now that you have showed me how inexpensive it can be. The dimension im thinking of is (72"x30"x30") LxWxH. It will hold around 280 gallons and i was wondering if 12mm glass with suffice, or if I should go with something thicker to be on the safe side. If you could give me some advice I would really appreciate it.

Hey Joey great video. I am putting together my own tank and the demensions are 21 w X 52 L X 38 H. According to your calculators on your site it will be 179 gallons and i wanted to know how thick should i make the glass or should i use acrylic if so how thick?

I really enjoyed this 6 part series. Im currently making an aquarium for my alligator turtle like this only its 4ft x 4ft x 16", i was lucky enough to get an 8ft tank for free because it was leaking and the mans insurance company replaced the tank instead of resealing it (lucky me). I was going to purchase base glass until i watched this series, but i think the pond armor will work better for what i have planned so thanks.

Nice wrap-up Joey. Can't wait to see how you re-purpose interior space for breeding families. My try ended in disaster when the small holes I drilled in plexiglass dividers allowed the fry to cross over, and die/get eaten.

I totally loved this series, and I'm thinking if doing something like. I'm a water engineer, and the way you filter the water is actually very similar to what's going on at waste water treatment plants. Clever design. I want the aquarium in my living room though. Why hide it away in the basement? Did you attach the blocks to the floor to keep them in place? Also I like the idea with the LED lights, only problem is that it might not work out for me in the living room, so I'll have to work out a design to both cover the top of the aquarium and allow me to mount LED lights.

since there is 540 gallons of water, the weight of that alone is around 4000 pounds. But that doesn't mean you can't be doing it in the living room, if you support the weight :)
@joeljaipersaud
@joeljaipersaud 8 жыл бұрын
+Benjamin Refsgaard the time and money to support the floor and all the drywall u have to rip out to add support to floor is way too much because most likely u would have to put cement pillars to support weight that will take up space and permanent

Im not sure if anyone has already question you this, but wouldn't the thickness of glass aquarium could only support as much water as the glass is made to support? Since the higher the water volume in the tank, the thicker glass you will need? For example, the front 72" front glass panel of a 110gal(6mm) will be thinner than a 72" 180gal(10mm) front glass panel, that is because the more volume water the thicker the glass is required? So my question is, how did you make these glass panel support this new customized tank since the water volume is so much different? I hope my question is understandable.

Thanks heaps. Brilliant. Why not have a marine aquarium and you could still have rays? additionally you can have corals, squids, crabs, shrimps, fish, etc and it's extraordinarily beautiful. I think you will look after them responsibly and also help many others, do a bit of conservation / breeding which ur perfectly capable. everything u did is like a dream and i so envy u.

A breeding discus group would be awesome. I don't know much about discus and don't really plan on having them as they need huge tanks and need such soft water. (Where I'm at the ph is 8.6) But it would be cool to watch :D I really enjoyed the series :D

You have inspired me to build a large fish tank, it will be about 300 gallons (5'x4'x2') its going to be awhile before i get started on it tho. hey Joey you have made me think about how I can use that old 135 gallon aquarium that the top center support broke. I am going to make a plywood tank with the front being the sides of the old tank. It should be about 810 gallons 12' x 3' x 3'. I will be using the pondarmor and I already have lighting. Are you still helping your fans (like me) get a discount on the pondarmor? Also how much product will i need to buy to cover about 100 square feet? Also thanks for being the best.
