One option for stopping people crossing the road at the airport could be just a shuttlebus running between the harbor and the airport. It wouldn't be unreasonable for a transit authority to add a bus linking the two, especially since people going to the airport will have luggage that makes it hard to walk that distance.

I think at this point, Lewis should move his lumber company to the outskirts of the city, either by choice or the city counsil pressure. The location is ideal to do an extension of the garden city/old verde beach.

That's a really good idea! I could also see part of it becoming a botanical garden with all the arboreal infrastructure already there. And the more industrial parts of the area could become unscale lofts and other residential buildings.

Actually one thing from here that I think is exactly what you’re looking at is underground pedestrian connections. Our system is very much a downtown-centered one, so where the various lines come close to each other there’s underground paths between two stops. Bet there’s a mod for that, but this is Verde Beach :)
@Atherax

Not sure if this was /s or not so going with the assumption that it isn't, sorry Having the stations of different transit types close enough that it encourages hopping between different modes of transit is the goal here. @ryanlargent9320

Yeah I feel like the reason why there’s so much of a problem with the subway with thousands of people waiting along the Airport line: it’s redundant with the monorail line, but since the metro station is within the airport asset it’s making the Cims see that as a quicker route rather than just going down the street to the quicker and bigger-capacity monorail.

@@CeruleanMirage it kind of looks like the metro and monorail line follow the same route (from the airport to the downtown rail station and very close to each other). I feel like some stations are too close to each other, ex. the one where the Vine St. line begins. A good idea might be to have two lines in one station and connect them that way, providing an ability for people to transfer underground in the station, rather than forcing them to leave the station, walk a block, and enter another station. You could do this as well with the Party line-have at least one stop in a Vine St. station. With that, you don't need to have as many stations and leave more space for development. Also, a neat idea might be to connect the second track at the airport with the Vine St. line and have the line connect with like 2 or 3 stations on the Airport-Sunset Line. Later on, looking at the massive use of the stations, maybe one of those metro hubs from the CCP might be necessary to use, especially if you would connect multiple lines together. Though it would mean taking out a block, so maybe it would be useful to use the most "varied" hub, like one with multiple modes of transport to maximize the use of the block or blocks. At this point I feel it would be beneficial to use the second station at the airport, to relive the other station.
@pRIderzaur
@pRIderzaur 3 жыл бұрын
yes yes yes, almost exactly my thoughts I think the close stations also explain the ~low "car trips saved". People would've just walked the 2 blocks, not use the pocket car anyway, so not much saved. I'm not 100% sure adding 2 lines on the Sunset stations would be great tho, considering the huge amount of subways from the Sunset line. But it would feel good for some of the other ones (esp when connecting the north-south lines with the northern east-west line. Please also consider adding some of the 2+1 asymetrical lanes. They'd be great around that new industry road 'collector' you built over the highway..
@DominikW118
@DominikW118 3 жыл бұрын
@@pRIderzaur If the asymmetrical roads are a mod, then he can't use them. I think you should very seriously consider connecting that unused airport station with an express line to the terminal station on Vine street, giving airport travellers a choice of the two major routes through town. Suggestion: Use the other subway line at the airport for an express train that goes straight to a few high-demand locations that offer transfers. in order to take some weight off the main line. as a passenger with a specific destination i would much prefer to take a direct route if possible. it would make sense for the airport! The line could follow parallel to the other line and dip in/out of the main line at a few stations it should probably directly connect to both of the E/W lines so the grand central and the stadium

When a real city decommissions a line they simply wall it off or fill in a section. Kind of cool to come across videos of abandoned lines or tunnels. It'd be cool if the new Cities Skylines allowed users to convert subway tunnels to car or pedestrian tunnels.

Either check to see where most of the sims are getting off on the current line, or just run it straight to/from the Train Station to the Airport. I know a big part of Verde Beach is that it's a vanilla build, but man at times like this I miss mods. There are so many good transit assets with multiple lines in different configurations that would have worked so well in today's episode.

1. Founders Park is a tourist spot. I think having a subway station near that would increase the number of visitors to the park, can be connected to the sunset line as it covers the tourism district. There's one whole district ready to be zoned right beside the double roundabout. Thus increasing the revenue for the city. It also has great connectivity thus achieving higher land costs.

You should use the dual platform metro stations, from the content creator pack, where you have more than one line. This will stop trains backing up waiting to get in.

This episode really shows the limitations of the subway system. There should be cross stations, hub stations (like 3 parallel lines), and even like Y style endpoint stations. I would even like to see pedestrian tunnel connections so you could link a vertical and horizontal station, if you doddnt want to use a cross station. Hopefully CS2 will introduce more options.

Love the metro fix! Been doing the same in my cities. One thing, from the new train/metro pack the sunken stations are really useful for connecting multiple lines instead of two basic stations next to each other like you're doing. They take a little more eminent domain, but that's just a synonym for a mulligan!

Just wanted to leave this here[not sure if Myrtle already had lore]: Myrtle Lewis Anthony was the first woman elected to head the Verde Beach Transit Board back in 2001. She served on the board for six years[2001-2007], she made it her mission that every citizen, and visitor of Verde Beach could be within a 10 minute walk to any form of city transit. Against all the hurdles thrown her way by male politicians of the time, she gave the city the best transit network she could. Opening the Lewis tram line in 2004. After her term on the board ended, she went on to serve on the city's newly made Environmental Protection Board, over-seeing any new transit planning in the city, to ensure it doesn't negatively affect the greenest beach city. She served there for another 2 yrs, however she sadly passed away due to unforeseen medical issues. It is now folklore amongst citizens that if you harm any plant on any city owned land, Myrtle's spirit will haunt you for the rest of your natural life.

So, you increased the amount of vehicles on every metro line seperatly. It might be more cost efficient to bump up the total metro budget a bit (which also adjusts the amount of vehicles on each line) and then tweak the remaining busier lines seperatly again.

Looking at the thumbnail after watching the video, I think you can extend the Party line all the way to the airport. It would make it so some people wouldn't need to transfer and may take pressure off of the Sunset line.

Phil should have a series similar to Biffa's Fix your city, where Phil increases the city's flammability by adding more landscapings. He can also put the pipes under the roads where they belong, and teach the city to respect the topography.

Just a small reorganisation of the subway then CP? Love it! I was wondering about the underground stations and whether they behave anything like the overland rail stations, where you can attach footpaths to the "non-roadside" entrances. Can you attach subterranean footpaths to underground metro stations? If you can then you can link the close-by stations that way. Oh, don't forget to replace the tram line out to Lewis Lumber with that bus line you mentioned... need to keep the company onside with the city council! Love the wee nod from Myrtle in the final city tour...

Watching this video is making me want to go back and redo my metro in my current city. As for Verde Beach's future, I would think it would be cool if you built a monument at some point. Maybe when you cross the river. You can turn off the effects of certain ones if you do not want their bonuses. However, I think a futuristic district with the fusion plant would be really neat.

'The party line' should continue to the airport to alleviate the load on sunsetline. It would get people to different part of the city and to the trainstation. It would be a great line for the turists to use!!

Regarding your point on the subway overhaul taking decades - I like to imagine that even though you yourself are doing the work over a few in-game days, "canonically" the work in-game has been happening over the required decades.

You talked a bit about it with the metro lines all being focused on linking to downtown but I think the broader issue is the lack of interconnectivity between the lines (and lack of connection to the "western" part of the city). A big thing missing to me that you always see in cities with good metro systems - there should be at least a few stations that are connected to multiple lines that serve as transfer hubs and allow passengers to have a seamless trip across the city without leaving the station (the London Underground for example has several, Kings Cross, Liverpool Street, Bank, Euston, Tottenham Court Road, etc.). For example, you could extend Vine St Line one more stop to the main train station and also bring in an express line from the airport straight to the train station. Might also loop the track around from the stop at the stadium down to the station at the university, making the university station another hub that can be the end point of new lines going out to the western parts of the city. Then connectivity between your districts in the western half of the city - imagine people working in the industrial/forestry area are most likely living in Old VB or the garden city but don't have any metro option for their commute.

To reduce the number of people waiting at the airport, you could try extending the other east-west line to the airport, to relieve some of the overcrowding on the Sunset Line, and give people more options to reach their destinations.

There's a really really good set of assets on the steam workshop for a parallel metro station and a cross metro station, each have room for two separate tunnels to come in and out of the station, really excellent for creating transfer stations like what you would see in any real city, and one of the few things C:S has really whiffed on. But apparently they're broken by sunset harbor so if you have that you can't use them.

The Stockholm Metro is planning to connect one of the green line’s branches to the blue line. Since the blue line is farther under ground, they’ll have to demoilish a section of the green line which is currently over ground, including a couple of stations (which will be replaced with an underground station). Keep in mind that the current overground route is in the way of construction projects in a pretty central area, so it was a smart move anyways. Btw, it’s the branch going to ”Hagsätra”, if you wanna look it up. The expansion project is called ”Nya tunnelbanan” in Swedish (or ”The new metro” in English using my own on the spit translation.)
