Wishing you success with your next project. I know about this but I have never done it because in my country there is cohesive soil so there is no need to use non-cohesive soil like in the video to mix with silicon.

It is lava rock, an igneous rock commonly sold as “fire glass”, very cheap and looks nice, if you mean the gravel here 2:53
