Nice work. My only suggestion is before you install your top decking is to actually fill in amd tamp around the concrete blocking for your posts. Even completely assembled you could see some moving and twisting. Also I would double or tripple the depth of your lime stone screenings before it is ramped down. I used to use crushed stone mixed with alot of stone dust. The best part of using crushed stone is its ability to lock against each other after being compressed to tamped down from the tamper. Get it all levels and squared into place then come up the sides of the block 2 inches and tamp into place with a piece of 2x4. Keeps it all from twisting. Used this system for instaling large stone work and block work where people wouldnt pay for poured concrete. I just went with more depth of crushed stone and heavy tamping and compression. Mixed with the stone dust it would set up like concrete over time.

I just started watching this guy's videos while I am stuck at home during this pandemic. I love his humor, easy way of explaining things, and his practicality. He gives the right details that I need. He makes me think that I can actually do it my self (now if he could convince my wife). I also like that his circular saw has that same feature on its cord, and in exactly the same place, as mine. What are the odds.

Make 2 frames , decide height and screw a piece of wood between corners of frame and ground with off cuts. You can use folding wedges to make adjustments to the 2nd frame on the uneven slab. Screw frames together and then you know where all the fixings go. Saves time and you have your measurements.

When I worked for another company we rebuildt a deck over a rolled rubber roof. The new exotic lumber was Ipe and none of us knew anything about Ipe! We attached the deckingwith stainless steel screws and hidden fasteners, and within a couple of screws it became apparent we needed to pre drill every hole as the SS screws were just snapping! The wood was so hard the drill bits were junk after about 20 holes. We also got a qt. of liquid wax which we had no idea what it was for! We found that out soon as the first few boards installed, within 2 days were badly checking and cracking. The wax was for any fresh end cuts! The deck took us about 3weeks longer because of all the drilling and multiple other issues! We also had to make all the railings out of Ipe! We both ended up fired because we took too long!

Love this channel and it's videos. Have watched so many and learned so much. I HATE to be the safety equipment guy when I know it gets made fun of here. I admire the safety glasses when using the grinder. But holy shit guys, ear plugs! Even with the battery hand held DeWalt drill, cumulatively that sound will ruin your hearing. The grinder, the circular saw, over and over....bye bye ears. I'm a sticker for hearing protection. I love music and don't ever want to lose that ability. Those watching at home, but a cheap pair of over ear muffs and it's all good. No need to go overly expensive.

Ear protection is so damn important.. I used a handheld air compressor for about 15 minutes while doing car detailing and didn't wear ear plugs. First, love your channel. Some of the most informative of all construction channels. Then a question, I have a cement patio off the back of my house in the space where I would like to build a raised deck. The patio is in good condition. Would you leave the cement in place and just anchor the legs of the deck to it? Or do I have to break up the patio where the legs of the deck come down and pour in footers? Thanks in advance.

@AndysGeneral

Ground slope takes care of that. You have gaps in the decking to deal with water. A sloped deck would look and feel funny unless it was more of a wooden walkway
