Thoughts on this? How about using a spot welder and placing a backing strip behind each seam to facilitate the spot welder? Might add to the industrial/art look and would make strong, easy welds with no burn through worries.

I’d love to try making one of these out of pvc finished with wood framing. Probably just using a big plastic watering trough to hold water with a circulating pump inside. I think if you put it in a hole at ground level and then layered some rocks on top it would look pretty awesome. 🤔

450rmack that's pretty how this one is set up minus the wood framing. I have a plastic water trough under the rocks with a fountain pump moving the water up to the top of the water feature 👍

This video was invaluable. We are finalizing a water feature project just like this now and you gave us the inspiration for a brown natural patina look to the metal feature AND the wire mesh with river rock. I was not liking the other choice of leaving a water tank open with water below it from an aesthetic perspective. Thanks for sharing and your feature looks awesome!

Thanks for posting this up. It's an awesome design. I see you post up two pump suggestions: Jebao WP-3500 & EXTRAUP 2100GPH....which would you currently recommend for an 8' high version? Thanks.....

Hi Jay, I've actually been experimenting with a different pump which is direct drive. I recently used a 2750 gph with an 1.5" pvc supply line to the rain curtain which I also did with 1.5" pvc. It was strong and so I installed an inline valve to reduce pressure. Graystone Creations is the website and the pump is called EasyPro. I'll propably step the pump size down to the 1850 gph for my next fountain. I would recommend the 1850gph for the 8' fountain.

Excellent video! In my area it is very windy. What if I would run fishing strings so that the water would have a better direction. Would that work?

Bravo! cuple questions if I may ask? What size pump did you end up needing/getting? Im assuming the water flows through the copper pipe and drops through the holes, is there any min. amount of pressure needed or anything like that, so that the holes on the end get the same amount of water and pressure as thee 1st? I ended up buying a pump with a 13' lift from Amazon, Jebao WP-3500. That size pump easily pushed the water up 7; and across the 36" span that I had for the fountain.

I use a 20 gauge sheet steel which I believe is close to 1mm. I would go a bit thicker but the company were I purchase my steel can only bend the 20 gauge without distorting the shape

Excellent build! I plan to put a water curtain under my deck, between 2 of the vertical posts. Any idea how often this has to be refilled? I would guess lots of evaporation with a curtain style fountain, but probably less than normal evaporation from the tank since it's covered. And how to measure water height after it's all covered up to make sure it doesn't get too low? I don't want to run a water line with an auto-fill valve. Just top off as needed. Experiences or opinions, anyone?

Evaporation really depends on your area. Here in Arizona, water evaporates at a fast rate so the auto fill nice. In more humid areas, it may not be as fast. I suppose one method to check level is to use a clear tube that extends up so you can see it and put something in the tube that floats so you can see if it gets lower. They use a method like this in Mexico to refill water tanks. Usually several ping pong balls on top of each other in the tube until you can see them, if that makes sense

Have question for you BTW very impressive work and I got inspired to do similar water future I wanted to go ahead and buy square tubbing from local recyclable still supplier Are there disadvantage of buying say 8x8” steel tubing in say 1/16 or bit thicker square tubbing , cutting them and later welding ? If I took this route than how would I install the copper pipe ? Perhaps running inside the vertical tubing ? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you !

Personally I've not seen steel tubing that is 8"×8"×1/16" which is why I chose to go with having the steel yard bend 20g sheet steel into channel. It also makes it easy to add the plumbing with one open side. It also helps with any maintenance, I can easily remove a panel to gain access.

Excellent job as usual, some years back, we did a similar feature with chains hanging down from the lintel, iirc, you can sort of "tune" the volume of the "waterfall". It was for a small garden of house that was near a motorway (freeway?) and the water sound cancelled out the tyre noise, I think it worked -it was a few years back tho so can't recall, but anyway, thought I'd mention it in case its of use to somebody.

It was some years back before digital cameras, but if you imagine an arch like yours, with chains (heavy ones that won't get blown about in the wind) under each irrigation fitting, I think the chains were different lengths, ie, the water runs down the chain, then depending on the length of the chain, the drop to the water in the catch makes the sound.I think it might have been designed by this lady www.amazon.com/Ground-Force-Water-Garden-Workbook/dp/0563551135, not sure, note- this book is for gardens in the UK, and some of em are postage stamp size, the trunk of some older American cars are bigger than UK "back gardens". So beware if investing in the book.The end result was a kind of hissing noise rather than a p-----g noise LOL, I tried a few google searches but could not find anything like it, sorry.Incidentally, heavy chains were used instead of down pipes for rainwater at one time.I'll keep looking.

Hello Gary, I think for the water feature in the video I used a 20 gallon tank. If there's a rule, I'm not aware of it. I would say use whatever submerges the pump and flows through the plumbing lines and add a gallon or two more to deal with evaporation. If you're looking for something more detailed, contact the guys at Graystone Creations, I buy my pumps from them and they are a wealth of information

I used an evaporative cooler float valve. it turns the water off once it reaches the desired level and back on whe it runs low

This particular one was not sealed per the customers request however I do seal some of them with a spray in lacquer

Thank you very much. I purchased the tank in the video at plastic-mart.com and its polyethylene. I stopped using them because of cost and it took too long to receive once ordered. Now I use 45mm pond liners

@@johnlebeau1 Actually just dig a hole deep enough to cover your pump and lay the pond liner into the hole. The side should overlap the hole to catch any splash and divert back into the hole

Artfully Rogue I’m currently struggling with this, I agree way too expensive for the basin. I tried to use a 55gal container from HD but my fill dirt /sand is collapsing the sides. For the pond liner method do you have a way to cover that with rocks? Thanks for your time!

The kind I stopped using after about 6 months. I actually went to a threaded nozzle that wouldn't move around. There's another video that shows the modification that I made. And you can get the nozzles online from Glennco Fittings part #011307

I use a 5/32" drill bit with a 10-32 tap size for the nozzles I use

Your tank is surrounded by earth. If you install a catch basin, about 6ft. x 6ft., then your splash trickles through the rocks, hits the basin, and drains to the tank, and you conserve a little water, while cutting out the natural consequences of earth, and water, weed germination growing up through the rocks and becoming unsightly. Weeds will still hit the basin, get water and grow, but without well anchored roots, they are easier to remove.

MarkH10 there's actually a vinyl liner under the rocks that drains back towards the catch basin. Before I installed the liner, I was losing a lot of water in the surrounding earth

Hi, how do you stop the inside of the frame from rusting? We have had a water feature made, similar to yours. However, instead of a rain feature, ours has a Japanese theme, with 7 water-troughs positioned diagonally opposite each. We’ve used Hammerite on the outside, but we’re unsure what to use on the inside. Thank you 😎

I haven't used anything on the inside of my water features as water rarely gets into the column. However I would probably mix up a batch of fiberglass resin and brush it on the inside.
