I've been trying to figuer out a super cheep way to build a makeshift room in my grandmother's garage for my daughter. I essentially have 0 income because of health complications. (No worries getting heart surgery soon, and can get back to work) but my garage is too hot for her to sleep in and too many bugs find there way in as well. I was thinking of using blankets and Velcro and somehow making walls like that.... Anyways this video really helped me figuer out what to do. I'm not gonna build the exact thing you did but you gave me the best idea so far. So thank you. My daughter is super important to me, she's 13 and deserves some kind of privacy and I'm glad I found a video that can help me give her that.

This reminds me of a mom who cooks for her children in a super tight budget in best way she can. She refuses to give in to her circumstance. When you whip things out with limited resources and circumstances, it takes a lot more will and creativity. No doubt your talent will flourish as your means grow. Such a great inspiration. Hope your channel grows!

I LOVE your voice! It’s extremely calm and soothing. Just be your authentic, amazing, creative, talented, and beautiful self. I am trying to do this project for quite some time now as I fell in love with how amazing it is! I don’t usually build things but I’m really determined. Having hard time finding the correct supplies! I know you have listed them several times in the comments but still unsure of exactly what I need. I am looking for foam insulation like you used 4x8 but thicker as you recommended. 2 inches or maybe more….but I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find. They are pink or gray colored. Many say Polystyrene on it. I tried reading about it but not sure that’s the same thing. There was a lot of really flimsy white styrofoam insulation too. Like the stuff that falls apart when you pull the packing out of box from purchased item. And none of them have this protective film on it. I am running into a ton of smooshed up and dirty looking insulation sheets. Everyone I ask at Lowe’s/menards/hardware store all are clueless and look at me like I’m insane when I tell them what I’m looking for and trying to build. I saw your suggestion about doing it with plywood. If you would be willing to chat with me and maybe share some guidance I really would be so very thankful! I was just wondering what screws would be the best as they would have to be pretty long. Did you use flat paint or latex? Does it matter? What did you cut it with? What are you using to protect your floor in the video while cutting? Did your cat shred it to pieces? Did it hold up? Are you using wood filler to fill the holes? Did you use just a hack saw for cutting wood pieces or need an electric saw? Would you be willing to make a Chinese screen for me like yours? I will pay you for your help!!!

I really like this. You did a great job. Do you think contact paper would strengthen the styrofoam?
@ShelyHomeDesign
@ShelyHomeDesign 2 жыл бұрын
I actually would suggest going with a thicker Styrofoam from the start, maybe 1.5 inch thick, it would make it easier to put together, and it would be much more sturdy. You could try contact paper but I feel it would be too much of a hassle to apply as it's a large surface, and thinner Styrofoam is too flimsy.
@abbylynn8872
@abbylynn8872 Жыл бұрын
Contact paper will not strengthen the Styrofoam. It will provide protection that's all. You could cover with inexpensive peel and stick tiles from the hardware store. Not the ones from the Dollar Tree.

Where can I get the thin lightweight wood for the framing? I only see 2x 4’s at Home Depot. Also which type of tape did you use to join the foam pieces together? This type of foam is safe to breath around correct? (No fiber glass etc)
@ShelyHomeDesign
@ShelyHomeDesign Жыл бұрын
This is just Styrofoam so I think it's safe. However I don't know for sure. And you can ask someone who works at home depot or lowes where to find the 1 by 2s or furring strips. I used 2 inch masking tape!

@@ShelyHomeDesign thank you so much!! I was looking at costs of each piece and estimate one 4 foot wall panel would be about $40 with the foam plus wood. I need 2 walls that are 8 feet wide (4ftx2)… so total number of panels would be 4… total project cost estimate is about $250. I also plan to frame out a thin shelf at the base and mid way up the wall to add weight to anchor it down without screws.

I used furring strips to keep this as cheap as possible, they were already 8' so I kept them that height, as far as the length, I think it was 10 feet for the main wall and 24 inches for the smal L part, but you'll need to measure your own space to make a wall that fits in your home. ❤

It sure would have been nice IF you would have talked where you could be heard. Even with my speaker volume up loud---you couldn't be heard. Why were you whispering and wasting our time?

I honestly thought that speaking lighter would be better because I didn't want to come across as rash, but multiple people have commented on my lack of vocal strength in my videos, I will make sure I'm much more clear and easy to hear in future videos! ❤
