You would think all these folks hollering about the use of screws, lack of felt, tyvek, and drip edge would see the other 327 comments asking the same questions and relax. 😂 You did a great job. None of those things are a big deal for a shed, people. 🤷

Exactly. This shed was built from experience since I did the same build 12 years ago at my old house and it's 100% fine.

Using Nails are cheaper,faster, and stronger (unless you used structural screws) but harder to correct any mistakes. Felt paper and house wrap would have been best practice. Also, PVC facia would last longer. However, it’s your shed and everything you did was perfect for a shed. I enjoyed the video ….looks great.

1st critical mistake.... Screws cannot handle the shear force that nails can. That is why framers use nail guns and not screw guns....

For any leftover "J" channel, buy a cheap 2x2 box fan and put a channel on either side. Pick up a filter about 24" x 24" and you have a very effective air filter for the shop. I put mine in the middle of the shop, set to high, put on a mask, then use the air compressor to blow the dust off of the lights and horizontal surfaces. After 10 minutes take the fan outside and blow the dust off of the filter and you are ready for the next clean up. Yes, I have a good dust collection system but I still end up with dust in the shop.

It's a preference thing for me.
@chio987
@chio987 8 ай бұрын
I've always understood it not as a preference and more that screws for framing are simply wrong, but I'm not a framer so I only figure its correct since nails have alot more flexibility and don't shear off or snap like s screw does so nails will allow some movement. I also understand this is just a shed but why wasn't a house wrap like Tyvex (understandably less important) or a roofing tar paper used?

@@DIYBuilds That's what I figured. In my part of TX vinyl siding is rare as it's not approved by code in most city's. Here you have to have 60-75% masonry. And you guys do that goofy plastic on the inside of the building... We dry to the inside so our vapor barrier is on the outside not the inside. Seen many restaurants rot out because they followed the plans from a northern architect. I have an 18x9 slab that needs a shed on it. Come on down here and enjoy the 104 temps. :) If I do build one it'll be stick framed and then sheathed in steel.
@chrislewis2262
@chrislewis2262 9 ай бұрын
it looks good but needs more waterproofing. need to wrap the edges of your plywood that are down on the concrete keep water from wicking up it. You need to do a house wrap a roof wrap. Also where's the king studs for your door and windows? Why did you blame the concrete guys for it not being square or was that a joke?
@DIYBuilds
@DIYBuilds 9 ай бұрын
Those things are optional. I know because I built the same shed 10 years ago and has zero water damage. As for the concrete yes I did blame them because they made the corner with the conduit in it 2 inches higher than the other 3 corners throwing everything off.
@chrislewis2262
@chrislewis2262 9 ай бұрын
@@DIYBuilds I look at it as if I'm going to spend all that money to build it, I might as well do it right the first time that way im not dealing with headaches later on. In 5 to 10 years this shed will need some plywood replaced, roofing repairs and probably some frame repairs. Water damage will be the cause. A simple moisture barrier would have extended the life of this shed an extra 15 to 25 years. Apart from those, shed has great workmanship and looks amazing.
