I finally got the updates done on my DIY elevator. New pully, rope and safety system.
IF YOU INTEND TO COPY THIS IS ANY WAY DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK! I am not an engineer and none of the parts i used are made of the purpoused I put them to.
That said I am pretty happy with my design and feel it is safe enough. Thanks for watching.
Parts for this build.
New rope, Only 7700 lbs rated. amzn.to/2QOUZOV
New snatch block, not the one I had but similar. amzn.to/3vhLs1E
Safety system Probably a lot better than a seat belt. Not Made for elevator use! amzn.to/3ni2qKu

Genius using seat belt. Effective but inexpensive and ready to install. Nice job brother.

six feet is enough for a trauma. Great to see a safety. You might want to consider a screw lift system Acme screw.replace the winch.

I think the seatbelt isnt necessary, we are talking about in laws after all! 😳 I refer to mine as out-laws.😜

I like your ideas, I think two seatbelts maybe four. If it hit on one, what if only that corner stops and it tumbles over and dumps the passenger.

I dont think thats likely the system is quite ridged. I didnt have 2 belts, but thought about it. I really doubt it will ever be needed. Thanks for watching.

The way you're levered against the wall, 2 is probably the point of diminishing returns. I don't have time now but, "doing the math" on the loads at the various failure points would be interesting. If I had to guess, you're going to break the attachment points before any of the connecting components. I.E. treat the lift like a helmet, if it ever does fall and is caught by the seat belt; I wouldn't trust the square tube to take repeated hits.

I know this is an old video. I'm curious how you attach the synthetic cable to the spool. Is it the same attachment as the wire rope? How has this system held up ?

the system seems to be working well. I dont remember how I attached it. Probably the same as the original

I really enjoyed your pragmatic approach! I would be interested in testing the seatbelt. You could block up the platform coming down and let out extra line, then kick out the support to see if the seatbelt engaged. Have you tried something like that?

Not yet, interesting idea. Might try next time I get up there

you could also mount the winch where pulley is above to reduce noise at platform. good idea on the seat belt! Would this work outside?

I dont see why it wouldn't work outside. It could rust. I would want to cover the wench.

Yeah, I'd like to make a porch lift (to a mobile home) to lift about 3' for my father in law

Nice again thnx do you think a lift like your could work for 3 floors 30 ft for me

The tracks come in 10 foot lengths. The transitions might be rough. You would have to use a stronger winch, or 2 winches. Definatly some safety devices. Otherwise I see no reason you couldn't make this go that high.

Think I’ll just continue with my idea of a fall arrestor. If I’m lifting 200 kg I’m not sure car seatbelt will cut it
@DirtyShopDIY
@DirtyShopDIY 2 жыл бұрын
A fall arrestor might not either. Those are made for 1 man safety. 200kg might need something more. Perhaps 2 arrestors

Car seatbelts are made to withstand a minimum force in America of 22000 Newtons and will support a man's full weight at 15 gravities. Far more than any fall arrestor would. what is more important is the fixing of the belt to the lift to ensure that a sudden drop does not shear the anchor points top and bottom. Those points should be double welded and strengthened on the frame . Its a good useofabrilliantsafety system that regularly saves lives every day. I am a engineer and that is the best safety option other than not using the lift! It's a whole lot better than not having one, the only thing I would do is not to tamper with the mechanism and ensure you anchor it properly so it can function as designed. No need to reinvent the wheel.

Wow, the wrongness continues. I watched the first video and commented how the two big scary issues are the lack of solid doors at the car's back & front exits which should be electrically interlocked with the hoist power (no motor power unless both solid doors are locked in place, use limit switches). The front door would act also as a wheel chair ramp and the back door will also serve as the top stair entry platform. Leaving that platform on the stairs, as this guy does, while the car moves downwards with Grandpa means Grandma, at the top, could accidentally walk off that platform and fall (yikes!). So easy to attach that platform to the car. A seat belt as a safety??? Seat belts are only meant to hold back your upper torso as you lurch forward during a crash. They are for sure not meant to handle a person's whole weight plus the elevator's weight. This goofy Rube Goldberg feature gets an F grade. Replacing the the hoist cable with some sort of hardware store plastic rope - Wow, very scary! The company making that hoist would, I am sure, not advise this (and would advise against using it as a people mover too I'll bet). The original metal cable probably is less prone to fraying and breaking when compared to plastic, even fancy high strength plastic.
