Here we will learn the how to build a basic solar power system. What component are needed and in what order they are connected. In this short video on how to build a small solar panel system for beginners? I will be discussing on the bare minimum components needed for a basic solar power system and how to install off-grid solar batteries correctly. First you have to plan your needs on how much power you will need and what time of day you need it the most. Next you have to size your solar panel and solar battery storage accordingly. Now depending on your budget and need you may either choose a pwm or mppt charge controller. Now follow the steps as shown in the video to setup your solar panel system yourself. great explanation of a small DIY solar project. But safety Sally said you need some fuses between the the battery and your devises.

Can we charge a supercapacitor bank using the solar charge controller by connecting the supercapacitor bank in place of the battery?

Yes we can. But currently supercapacitors dont come even close to the energy densities of batteries. Currently they can augment the power output of a battery but they cant store a lot of power in a small ammount of space like batteries.

How much Ah 12volts battery is good for 50watts panel and can we use old computer ups as inverter

First think of what you need to power. A 50w panel can get you only around 0.2Kwh of power on a good sunny day. Before you plan on getting a battery for the panel I would like you to think of your need to power and then plan the system accordingly.

So we can use a regular car battery? Won't it get damaged? Thanks 🙂

A regular car battery is not good for solar power storage. If you go to a DoD of 10% you will only get around 300 to 350 cycles of life out of it. Basically a brand new battery will get damaged with 1 years worth of daily cycling at 10%. But if you use a deep cycle battery you can get 2000 cycles at 50% DoD. The car battery I used in this video is for demonstration purpose only, and of course, if you dont use it daily and only plan to us it once in a while then a car battery might just be what you need.

The question is how to build a solar power system? Well you will need time, a small budget and lots of calculations and planning first. Next you will need a solar panel, charge controller, batteries, wires, and depending on your needs an inverter. Planning is the most important of all steps.
