Enlisting your friends to sand, why didn't I think of that?! This is the best, such an amazing build, I can't wait to see it this weekend! I had the same reaction when seeing this in the catalog but I think I'll need some time after my latest round of sanding to convince myself this is a good idea haha

In 1999, I decided to either learn to Fly or learn to Sail.. I wish I would have learned to sail, but flying is a one hour vacation I don't do often enough. This insight on your build has given me inspiration to consider it, I have worked in body shops, building amazing machines that have taught me the love of sanding until your fingerprints are virtually gone, I've done plenty of Glassing and used many types epoxy's and urethane's, Thank you for the most valuable thing we have as a species... your time

She turned out beautifully! That is a project to be proud of, for sure. Congrats Sophie for putting together an amazing looking finished product (and for introducing me to a company I had no idea existed in, essentially, my backyard!) Definitely looking forward to the outfitting of electrics and rigging.

So names... Sandling, Sand Bar, Shoal (which is made of sand), Dust, Stardust, Sand n Vac, Sand Clear, Power Tool, Fillet Queen, Fillet O Sole, Wet Sand, Dust in My Eyes. Ok, thats enough. Your video was very good! Entertaing, informative, very well edited, just a pleasure to watch! I know it was a massive process to stitch the vid together, but you did a great job. Bravo and thank you. BTW, the boat came out gorgeous.

So great to see this video. We met you and Ryan at CLC before you had started to build the boat. My husband had finished the Peeler Skiff and was beginning work on the Peapod sailboat which is now finished and on a trailer waiting for it to be moved to its New England home. Your boat turned out to be a real beauty. Hope you are enjoying boating on the Chesapeake.

Yes, I really enjoyed your video... and I must add that you have a true talent with pictures and sound, and for a vivid presentation of your subject ! Having spent half of my life producing and directing documentary films for the National Film board of Canada, I very well know how much work and crafwomanship it takes to make an instructive and still captivating video about a subject as complex and also as dry as building a wood-epoxy watercraft ! Congratulation for your achievemet and be sure that I will be eagerly waiting for the rest of the story ! :)

The boat looks incredible! You did a great job on both the boat and the video. One of the most underappreciated aspects of finish work is prep, (i.e. sanding). When people see the beautiful shine in the finish as a glistens back at them, one the key things got it there was all the time hard work spent sanding and attention to the details. Now you’ve been rewarded! Great job!

While some epoxies have no amine blush-which is fine, some of the best epoxies do. It's not the problem people imagine. Since you have to sand the epoxy anyways before paint or varnish, simply scuff it instead with a wet Scotchbrite pad, and this will remove all the amine as well as prep the surface in one easy step. If it needs to be flatter, you have to sand it more regardless of what type of epoxy. It's rarely an issue. As far as mixing ratios go, the pumps supplied by the maker enable easy use regardless of the ratio. I use a gram scale myself.

Oh Sophie! I feel your pain of sanding. We have spent the past week fiberglassing our boat, and the amount of sanding to take off the primer that the previous owner put on before they probably should have is a lot. Filming too much seems to be my downfall, which is won't edit until probably we at least get the top painted or have enough rain in can't work. The boat looks beautiful that you built. I can't wait to see it in the water. Oh, and crab cakes for a name? awesome!
