Think they’d be interested in building another one of those? I’m doing a 24’ solar powered pontoon/houseboat. Already have the Torqeedo motors and SunPower panels, just need a way to tuck the panels in when it’s on the trailer.

So glad to see you’re getting back on the road. Be very careful how you attach the panels. I bought a pallet of sun power panels and attach them to a frame on top of an off-road camp trailer. I used one bolt through each grommet, and within 1000 miles, the corners started breaking off, from the panels vibrating in the wind. Of course, I didn’t know this was happening until one flew off going down the freeway. Lucky, like you, no one was hurt.

I have followed you from the start and have loved your travels (especially the drone footage). Although I was left a bit wanting on the technical specifications So Mate! Make sure this time you give us a blow-by-blow run down a detail of the build! a 7.9 Kw array seems workable, but we need to know things like expected total storage of batteries and expected average Watts per Km/Mile. I think there will be a lot of people who will want to follow on your coat tails and try to do the same thing. I would love to know guesstimated budgets, and who your sponsors are (You have given us the Solar panels) etc. etc

69 panels - nice. While I was one of those doubters on insta for the folding method, but you've explained your reasoning well and I think it will work just fine. I also like how you're using tons of smaller panels, repairs should be very easy in the field with a few spares tucked under the bed. You're pioneering a whole new concept, I can't wait to see the next solar travelers iterate even further. My personal hope is a small solar motorcycle camper trailer towed by a zero or something, that would be a fun trip.

@3:20. I went with the thin flexible panels too. In addition to being hundreds of kilos lighter over the entire array, their thinner profile creates a lot less drag. At speeds of 55-60 mph I've noticed less than a 4% loss of efficiency of my Leaf AFTER adding the roof rack and panels. Those thin panels cut through the air like a knife. I also like that you used the smaller 100 watt panels for the array. It's a lot more nuts and bolts than the bigger ones, but if one goes out on you (as they occasionally do) you loose a smaller percent of the overall output. Video like #122
@RouteDelSol
@RouteDelSol 3 жыл бұрын
Yes all the same sort of reasoning here from me. And yeah the idea is to be able to easily replace the panel if I should need to.
@alfredodejuan390
@alfredodejuan390 3 жыл бұрын
I am concerned about the attrition on the mobile parts. They are going to work on the structure of the array or on the frame of the solar panels structure? I think you should design it with some pieces that you can replace easily in case of weathering, breaking or bending.

At first, I got to say I love that you carry on and that you get that kind of support. The mission to a sustainable future needs to carry on. I got a question on the solar-modules Choice. You said it was because of weight issues. I know, that there are „light“ glass panels with a aluminum casing that only weight about 15kg (33lbs) an has 325watts peak output. With your railing systems isn’t the whole construction equaly heavy to such a system? Is it because you need to stick to 12/24volts? Why not use marine grade solarpanels with a wood or cardboard backing? Is the weightlimit do tu regulation of the van? Or because of the railing system? Because if learned, that weight on a vehicle is only a problem while accelerating. When cursing the weight should matter as much.
@RouteDelSol
@RouteDelSol 3 жыл бұрын
You are right about the glass panels and us reframing them. They end up the same but there is not really a way around framing the panels ourselves no matter which we choose from. There are a million ways to do things too I wish I could try them all. I can't wait to see the community grow and learn from one another all the ways to do these kinds of builds.

@@RouteDelSol Thx for the reply. I love the Projekt, especially from an engineering standpoint. it shows what „diy“ can do. I’ve looked a little further into the topic, to see if it’s possible to do some kind of camper trailer (popular in Europe) system, that can be used off-grid and will be able to support an electric towing vehicle. I‘ve found the sunman earche modules with just 4.5kg (~10lbs) because weight limitations are pretty harsh in Germany. Looking forward to your project I hope that more people will look in this topic and that it‘ll become a massmarket product

I'm not an engineer or anything, but doesnt having so many pivots and sliding stuff, bring in many potential points of failure? I am sure you have done your homework and it should look amazing, but it seems like that could go wrong in many ways, not to mention the amount of precision needed to keep it together with such a long turning arm

My name is Curtis And I'm 7 years in tiny home Hello I'm new to this channel I was wondering did you say the Mobile Van is on a 48 volt drive system and the main question is are your panels run in series or are they going to a solar booster, and what convigeration are the panels I hope your still well
@whitlockbr
@whitlockbr 3 жыл бұрын
Is this array less power than the last one.. if it is does the weight loss for the lighter panels make up for that power loss? How much power can your charging equipment handle? 8kw from what I remember. You could get a 2-4kw deployable array to keep in the back to keep you charging at full capacity power while stopped.
@RouteDelSol
@RouteDelSol 3 жыл бұрын
Yes slightly less power but way better quality panels. We have to wait until field tests to see what that means in the real world.
@JojoAigner
@JojoAigner 3 жыл бұрын
If you are charging with lets say 7kw of solar panels in ideal conditions, how efficient is the whole process until it reaches the batteries? are you actually getting close to 7kw of charge or does the charge controller/inverter etc. take some power away?
@RouteDelSol
@RouteDelSol 3 жыл бұрын
It is never 100% efficient. You have even voltage drop in the wires so not only the instrumentation that has inefficiencies. There is up to a10% loss from the panels to the batteries...
