I totally get where you are coming from when you talk about avoiding certain tools when they are inconvenient. I used to be that way with air tools because the compressor was loud and a pain to get out and setup. No to mention tripping all over the hose. So I put it in a closet and ran permanent air lines on the ceiling of my shop and now I use it all the time. I think I'll do the same as you did with the soldering station. I love the way yours turned out!
@TheSmugglersRoom

For instance, i think i want mine to fold up like a briefcase and looking how yours is configured it seems possible with a bit of careful Tetrissing of all the components. Not sure it will look as good as yours but it will definately be cargo container orange with plenty of weathering😉

Years ago I purchased a used rifle from a state prison the stock had a deposit of what I call hand wax common on old car steering wheels and stick shifts kind of a black rough surfacing of oil, skin, sweat like plastic dip or truck bed liner. Another item that could be a weathering is blood and/or alien goo/gore remember the acid blood in Alien... Think “solvent dissolved styrene packing peanuts”. I use to back fill models for weight with this. I had two costumes of Conventions one was a Corillian smuggler, the other was a blue denim smuggler using the same basic accessories, that allowed me to change clothing.

Hmm... I can tell a geek when I see one. Whether it's medieval times or Star wars, I can always tell, especially if they have a life size R2 unit sitting behind them😂... Of course the kinda Star wars theme of your soldering station also helps to give it away, although, those fan grills remind me of the empire ships, so I don't know why you didn't make your fan grills have a red glow behind them, which for whatever reason is so prevalent on empire ships. Honestly though, good job... I am looking for ideas on building my own soldering station, albeit more portable in size, as I have a small TS100 iron coming in the mail from iFixit, and your video, as well as others, have given me a few ideas, although, I would like to get most of my parts 3d printed, and perhaps have a pocket size soldering station that has a captive solder holder with hole for pulling solder through, and possibly a small foldable silicone or other thin heat resistant mat to adhere to the soldering station table type work surface parts, probably a dovetail hinge type setup, where you just open the case and pull out a single or multiple, plastic plate(s), depending on size required, and then just set it where you need it and have some dovetail joints connecting it to the soldering iron case and/or other modular accessory pieces, such as more work surface pieces, or a helping hand device, in a kind of modular layout... Possibly, if I wanted to semi-permanently attach everything together, I could have some extra TS100 case screws lying around screwed into the case to be able to re-use any special opening screwdrivers with this, and save space, while giving a bit of strength and stiffness to the joints...

I found this video because I was looking to see how to build my own Soldering Pot... I am surprised you don't use one for tinning wires or desoldering boards

@7:00 when you're measuring to centre the holes for the fans, why not draw lines between opposite corners?

Point of order that is not a soldering station it is a bread boarding design center one thing your missing is “a pair regulated DC power supplies”. I would think the two blocks on the right hand side would be ideal location for power supplies.

I would consider ducting the exhaust through filtration or venting outside, otherwise you are just redistributing fumes in the basement where you will breathe them in anyway.

good idea. This will be used mostly in the shop, and we have good ventilation in there, but still worth exploring! thanks

Nah, I’m just pulling your leg over the slightly peculiar US pronunciation. It’s a bit like how you guys have an odd way of pronouncing aluminium. It’s just a mildly amusing linguistic difference across the Atlantic. 🙂
