At your local hardware store obtain:
36" long of 1/2" PVC pipe
2 - 1/2" Tee peice
1 - 1/2" cross peice
4 - 1/2" 45-deg elbow peice
5 - 1/2" cap peice
1 - valve stem cut from bike inner tube
1 - wine cork
2 - 2L pop bottles

Sorry Josh, I know this is years later but I’ve only just found your video. Great rocket! My grandson is almost 3 yrs of age and he is currently obsessed with rockets. They sell valve stems at the auto parts store for about $2 for 4. No epoxy needed. Good video.

If you don't have a pipe you can hot glue a straw onto the cork. Works just as well.

Great video, Really helped me with a project and use of fun. One minor problem, the list of materials says you need 4 longer PVC pipes, but the video shows that you need 5. The fifth is the one that the innertube piece connects to.

Always great to see this approach is still being used. We were doing it back in the early eighties, although back then, no cameras. Also no foam board we had to use balsa wood. Great thing is unlike the real rockets replacement bodies can be made from trash, when they get damaged. TIP. We used a few drops of washing up liquid (hand dish washing soap) as it holds the pressure a bit longer giving you more power. Also if you can use a rubber wine bottle cork as they hold better and last longer. Cant remember what brand wines to use but many of the cheap ones use the rubber corks.

Good build, only thing, I would recommend to avoid getting glue in the valve is temporarily put something like tissue into valve opening before pushing it through the glue.

I thought about the glue going in the valve too. I'd slap a piece of tape on the valve to keep it clean. Other than that, I'm looking forward to building one of these with my grandson. Thank you for the video! Very easy and cool!

Fun fact: If you wanted to fly around the city you need enough fuel (means water) and enough pressure(the more pressure the more power to lift) also you need to be light MOST IMPORTANT the parachute if you don’t want to die

I want to use an air compressor up to 180 psi. At what pressure will the bottle explode?

roughly half of that at like 90ish maybe. best bet is to experiment, go pressurize some in a safe area far away from anyone until they explode and note the psi :P

Good video, but I want to clarify 2 things. 1; do not put anything expensive like a camera on this until you have tested yours. 2; the fins don’t have to be close to the center of thrust, they have to be behind the center of mass. Hope these help.

It simply depends on how tightly it sits on the cork.

There are other setups that don’t use a cork and you can pump it 40-75 psi. It will go significantly higher with more pressure.

You need to have a rocket release lever so you can fill the rocket up as much as you would like with water and air pressure...good idea and easy design, but its flawed because you cant control the launch and are losing alot of altitude because of it.

Hold the rocket down with all the force you got and get an air compressor/friend to pump it. 1: Extreme Heights 2: Exploded Bottles (You usually are forced to let go of the bottle before this happens)

Could you build a £1200 rocket with metal launcher etc with electric air pump and maximum psi with a large rocket with at least a hight of 30,000ft will subscribe and if possible in future after debts gone I'd be a patreon as this is ace and I have tools to build it and wouldn't be a waste of time
