Yes it does. I talked to a friend of mine today that has the same size pipe as mine, his is 2 3/8" oil drilling pipe and his tower is 120 feet high. Holy shit that's high. He has to pull it up with his tractor.

That turbine spin sure is better at 64 feet. Very informative video Jeff, and thanks again for taking the time to familiarize us with wind turbine functions.

I love it!!! I have been thinking about the same thing you just did for awhile now. I have had my turbines at just 10ft since I had them. I've been wanting to get them up higher since I got them. the best way to tell how much faster the wind is up high I watch the tree tops. great video.

Wyatt said you did, i haven't seen it but i will be checking it out Tore. I am glad you had yours on your garage first so you could see the difference. I have been watching the wind meters and the wind is very steady at 64 foot over the dirty wind 18 foot.

Thanks Charles. It makes a BIG difference. The wind meter usually shows about 14 mph up at 60 feet and 4 mph at 18 feet. The 60 foot wind speed is pretty steady wind and the 18 foot wind speed seems to be eratic, up and down quickly. Gotta bring it down again and put a white enamel final coat of paint on it.

Done. 3. build brace and buy the guy wires to attach 20ft pole to big ole stump. not done yet. I'll post a video on my channel when i'm done later this week or first of next. .....Thanks again....

Thanks Orlan. I am starting to assemble a battery bank inside and a matching wind turbine to do a comparison at the 2 different heights. I want to show the difference in output from 2 matching systems. Hopefully people will be able to understand why they don't get a lot of power at 18 feet. Mine are not surrounded by trees either. You are in a different wind area being in the wide open desert.

you forgot to say it is a 3 phase ac output wind genny. some people will ask you that.. I love the extra big black heat shrink that's a great Idea double it up = safer.. you should grease the connectors on the 3 pin wind genny to stop corrosion or even heat shrink them to.. HEIGHT = POWER... great video thanks JEFF..

The wind seldom comes from more the 2 directions so the wind turbine never really turns 360 degrees. If it dooes it will unwind itself. People have been using the same tension system for years with no problems. Slip rings burn out and add to the cost.

When lowering or raising the gin pole you should ALWAYS have the brake switch applied as the pole can 'jerk' more than normal and blades hit the pole when rotating.

Do you have any amp readings off this yet? I am also ( like you know ) using your 14 mag 12volt 9blade Raider Around 30 foot off the ground, and it is Awesome. If yours is working like mine then you should be able to catch around 5 amps or so in winds as low as 7-10mph. It is hard to tell the watts with my setup but in those low winds 7-10mph, it seems around 10-50 watts using my sun 10.8 - 30 volt 600watt grid tie inverters. I want to see what 60 foot off the ground can do :)

Hello Jeff. I am curious about the need for lightning protection. How, what, and where should it be utilized on any stand-alone wind turbine setup? I live in the Sonoran desert east of Tucson, AZ and we get some badass summer thunderstorms (if it rains here) with a shitpot load of ass hair curling lighting. It often blows the hell out of mesquite trees and occasionally a saguaro cactus. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Rick in Pantano, AZ. yes, the ghost town.

Nice video, Jeff. I think someone must have asked if that wire gets wound up at the top if the turbine keeps turning in one direction- you say it will unwind? I don't have any room for the guy wires if I were to go that high . I just measured the pine trees behind the barn and they are 60 ft tall I was thinking of going up the back of the barn which has 10 ft side walls, but those trees would block most of the wind. The one thing I would have to figure out is if I can grid tie a wind generator to hook into the output from my solar panels. If I could do that, I'd try putting one up about 25ft just to get the extra energy at night. Is there a way to convert that 3 phase output to single phase 220VAC?

also i have thought of using a telephone pole or power line pole to pull the mast up to. all you need is the wench and a pulley at the top of the pole. you can have a mast that's higher than the pole by a third higher. if you have a pole that 20 feet high then you can pull up a 30 foot mast. if the pole is 40 foot. you can pull up a 60 foot mast. that's info i got from other ham radio operators. one thing more you would need is a v shaped locator at the top to center and stabilize it to the pole

Great product for the price i am seeing on your website. Question: is there locking mechanism.. if the wind is too great for the turbine to handle in a storm from ground? would it be appropriate to install an aircraft warning light on the turbine itself if you live in an area where there's an airport or helicopter landing pads.

you show voltage in most of you demonstrations. i would like to see amperage output to see the possible charge rates at wind speeds. plus height is crucial for available wind. the higher you go the better off you'll be. at a crazy height of 400' you'll get a more constant and higher wind speeds. but that would be cost ineffective to go that high. unless you rich. at that point, you could afford grid power being dumped into a massive dummy load.

OUCH! I did this in the Army (MOS36D20) and you actually did great but the hard way! Are you going to be dropping the tower a lot the reason for so much cement work? Why not mount the wench on a truck or car? There is still a risk for either to move believe it or not. The vehicle of course. I've seen brakes left off and slabs slide after a good yank unless there is a rod or pole as an anchor like a 3'Dx 8W or wider" hole, 6" steel pole, cement down center and side of pole and foot of anchor then a 2- 3/4" bolts or 12" threaded rod, washer, nut stuck down the center of the pole in the cement that fit a steel I beam or plate for the wench mount. Also I really do hope you deburr the edges on all your exposed metal before setting in concrete next time so no one stumbles and gets cut on them. How long does the grease stay on the pole by the turbine? I know how the winds are here and sometimes it's pretty brisk and knowing how grease can migrate in the wind I know there is always the little needed to keep it from rusting but can you paint it with Rustoleum instead? Oh, sorry, but I also did aircraft, machine shop tool and die, construction, and other jobs in life and I get carried away! Still a nice job! Ask an expert on how many times you can drop the pole before it starts to lose it's tensile (?) strength. That could be expensive. I did the same thing for a radio station mobile unit in '81 and it worked great about 30 times. I'm glad it was just a directional antenna! Scared the bejeebies out of me when it buckled at the center guy wire joint. Weak point. Glad it didn't go through the windshield of the truck!

just watching nature should tell people the higher they go the more power could be gained. look at the tree tops or simply go fly a kite!! the higher they go the less work you have to do. Why don't you use a slip ring? Looks like after time the wires will get all twisted! Without a slip ring it may work for short time installs, but I am sure that after 10-15 years the wire will twist up. No I don't think it will turn the same number of time clockwise as counterclockwise! Besides the more a wire is twisted bent shortens the life of the wire. Yes I know what can happen to wires that bend, and twist alot. And it can be a real pain in the bottem to find a interment break in the middle of a long wire!
