In this video I show you how to build an outdoor kitchen (also known as a mud kitchen) for kids. It is twin sized with two sink areas so multiple chef's can work at the same time! 🤣 👇 Links to tools/materials below👇

BUILD PROCESS
It is all made from 2x3, 1x4 and 1x6 treated timber, screwed together and oiled using Liberon Decking Oil.
I enjoyed this one... Fast screw-type construction but with a few finer elements thrown in for good measure. I love how it turned out and it will be hardy enough to take the battering it will get! 💪
I like how easy finishing is with the Liberon Decking Oil and it has turned into a bit of a go-to for me recently (as you might have noticed 😇). The chalkboards from a couple of weeks ago also really finish the piece off too 😍

Very nice straightforward video. Please tell me how do you stop the wood from twisting and cupping as everytime i cut say a 6x1" it immediately starts twisting and cupping. Any help be awesome thanks.

Sounds like there are lots of internal stresses or the wood is still wet. I always give the wood a few days to acclimate before I use it, and always cut/mill the timber just before I use it so the joints in the workpiece hold it in place. If I mill the day before I often wake up to twists. It's just what you get with construction pine 👌

@mikeparsonscc At 2:02 are you cutting a 1x6 and what is the 38, inches, mm? I'm trying to follow this to the 'T" but I'm a stumped on what size you did the bottom or if it even matters as long as I leave a 1" space to lay the horizontal boards along the bottom. Thanks!

Thanks great video. I noticed when you cut out the sink one of the support boards had pocket hole screws. Any particular reason you used them as well as screwing from the top down? Thanks

Thanks! Those particular supports are just there to ensure the little bits of top left over from the hole have at least two points of contact. TBH I think I used pocket holes to reduce the amount of screws visible from the top - it looked quite nice with just the three rows perfectly aligned - there is no reason other than aesthetics 👍😊

Thank you. I sanded up to 120 grit (it's going to live outside after all) and it only would have taken an hour or so to sand 👌

Great news! I made this one to get the best use out of the material I had. So it was 1190mm wide and 600mm deep. The height depends on the height of the person who will be using it! Good luck 👌

Hi did you fence boards (rough sawn) and just sand them smooth ??

If I remember correctly they were treated 1x6 boards, and yes I cut them to size and sanded off the rough spots 👍

Hi! I don't know if it's because I'm in Canada, but I can't find anything called "Decking Oil". Can you let me know what a similar product might be? Can this be used directly on pressure treated wood?

I don't know to be honest as I don't know the specifics of the oil blend. I imagine any oil based stain will do a similar job. Yes, it goes straight on to treated wood 👍

just get 2 inch screws, that is good for construction grade material.

Good to hear it! It was about £100 total in materials, wood included. I cannot remember the exact amounts and dimensions sorry. It is made out of 2x4 and 1x6s 👍

If that's what the description says that will be what I used. It seems my memory isn't as good as I thought it was 🤦‍♂️ I generally don't use a cut list I just get what I need as I go 👍

I’m a joiner for a living and probably one of the most dangerous ways I’ve seen to use a mitre saw. But on the other hand very nice work on the build… just keep your thumb away from the saw

It's a Bosch GTS 10 J, sitting on a homemade cabinet 👍 I'm very happy with it. It has plenty of power and was cheap as these things go. There is a link to it in the description👌

Hey! No worries. This was 1200mm wide (so I could get two boards out of 2400mm dimensional timber) and 500mm deep/tall at the work surface 👍

Thank you! ☺️ The finished size was just under 1200mm wide (so I could get best use of 2400mm long boards) by 600mm deep 👌 The long clamps I use here are Axminster Trade Heavy Duty Parallel Clamps 👍 Not cheap but highly recommend and they go on sale every so often 👌

Apologies but I really cannot remember, it was quite a long time ago. When you plan it out on paper before hand it should give you a good idea of the total amount needed 👍

I don't I'm afraid. Their size/weight does not make it economical. Etsy is full of them though so you can definitely find one there that meets your needs 👌☺️

The tools make it faster and more efficient, but you don't need them to make something. Take inspiration from what I did and make it work for your situation 👍
