Nice video ! Here are a few suggestions. On quoin brick and the tail brick of leads, place level across brick. If face is square to beds, the brick will be plumb when crossed leveled. Also,on longer leads, 4-5 brick, lay quoin brick and tail brick first and level. Reason being,it is easier to lay and level infill brick between two points. Lastly, glue a piece of wood to face of boat level exact width as longer levels. Reason being, contact points will be exactly the same ,hence you will get exactly same reading when you switch over to longer levels. Thanks for sharing your video.

A great practical young man who goes into detail and is honest enough to tell us what not to do, but he does it as in the case of letting 1mm height and scaping the mortar with his finger to show us how it affects the brick. I’ve only just found your channel and know nothing about bricklaying. However I am finding it fascinating. One thing I can add though is why the hollowed out part of the brick is called the frog. The underside of a horses hoof to the rear, the V part is called the frog, which acts as a shock absorber to the hoof, which I can relate to the brick. The only explanation I can think of, but I may be wrong of course 😬

Background music: its really cathartic to just be able to watch you do brick work...the sounds of the work are poignant and this is important to get a real feeling for the job....but when you hit an part where there is plenty of repetition, doesn't happen much in your videos, then some background music whilst this is happening, in regular time or sped up, makes a difference, its cinematic (your style is sick so just do your thing...we love it)...if you read this then next time you use background music use and Aussie song...thanks for these very interesting videos...never thought I'd love watching brick laying so much...just pandemic pivoted to building design...so these videos are vey valuable....again cheers...Jeremy from Australia!...

I have a question, if you don’t mind. When laying first course on a uneven footer(in my case, on cut stone) do you just fill in the low areas with muck or is there another way? When using old large brick for exterior wall and smaller modern brick for interior wall how do you tie the two walls together? Thicker beds for the smaller brick to bring them up to same level as larger brick? Silly questions I know, but I’m learning greatly from your channel. Thank you, Jamie

Great video Rodian. I'm a bricklayer from across the pond, Newfoundland Canada. When you lay out the first course, would you normally level and plumb every brick in the first course? Or would you level and plumb the corner brick, lay the bricks next to it, then level and plumb the ends and then use the end lined up with the corner to straighten up the middle bricks? ha, do you know what I mean?

Good wee informative video again, Rodian. Nice and simple for the new to the trade folks to follow. I try to avoid hitting my level as much as possible, but as you say (the good solid brands) are made with "tapping areas" built in, exactly for the process you showed. Just a pity that the kids going to college will be told off for tapping the level.....do it the hard way instead! Oh, BTW....much better without the background music when it is supposed to be a training video, just makes it much more professional looking, IMO.

Hey Rodian. Loving the new vids. Got a question for you.... How much slower is it to build in a Flemish bond pattern vs a stretcher bond?

Cheers Henry😁👍🏻 It is definitely slower because you have to snap the headers. If you have a labourer they can do it for you but then it would cost more to pay them. I couldnt tell you how much slower but it definitely is slower........but I think not looks way smarter 🧱👌🏼😁
