Unfortunately, Ford has a tendency to be very conservative with their engines, erring towards reliability over power. I think this has led to people seeing Ford engines as dogs, or boat anchors. Rather like the 70s cars… in most every measure, 70s cars are better-designed than 60s cars, but they lack power, so everyone thinks theyre crap. When you do a rebuild of that 40-50+yo engine, build some power into it, and suddenly that 1974 Grand Am, or 1978 LTD II, or 1976 Mustang Cobra II, or 1977 Charger is a seriously bad ass car! Unless you have to rebuild a motor to stock specs, for insurance purposes, there should be no reason you cant add some power, and not lose much in hp, OR gas efficiency. I lost an average of 1hp, as long as its every day driving, when I added a 235hp Roush Supercharger to my 17 Mustang GT, and it was all done on the factory warranty.

Enjoyed this video very much! Back in late 2009 I started planning my 427 Dart/Windsor build for my street 1985 Mustang LX. Picked up that book you wrote on the Ford Windsor Strokers which had great info for parts needed and went to work. Long term durability and torque at street range RPM was the main focus here. I used the TF 225 High Port heads and a matching Super Victor intake from TEA. Compression for pump gas 93 was set at 10.3 and the carb was a custom Holley flowing 900 CFM with Kooks 1 7/8 headers. Cam was the Lunati hyd. roller Voo Doo series with 241/249 duration @ .050 with .600 lift on a 112 LCA. The engine installed in my 85 LX coupe with a TKO 600 trans and a 3.50 geared 9 inch rear. Would run easy launch talking roll out at 2500 and then hit it in 2nd gear 10.90-11.00 at 132 MPH only hitting 6000-6100 RPM thru the lights. Would pull the front wheels in 2nd gear and shutdown my buddy's 1970 511 cube Hemi Challenger! Now 13 years later still running well with no smoke and no oil drips or leaks with 195-200 PSI cranking compression. 6 years ago I replaced the Super Vic intake with a dual 660 Holley intake made by Price Motorsports the ONLY guy to make such for the 351W. Looks exactly like a FE 427 dual quad type intake. Yes the smaller runners hurt a bit over 5000 RPM but still made 480 HP and 505 Torque at the wheels all in at 5600 RPM Torque curve is crazy fat and flat with this thing and a joy to drive. You can cruise at 1500 RPM in 5th gear with no issue. Plenty of fun for me at 69 years and owning this Mustang for 38 years! Thanks for the work you do and show us! A liitle video clip from last week when I added 1 inch phenolic carb spacers to keep the carb heat down. Cranks right up after sitting 20 minutes after hot day drive. kzfaq.infoPwjooOAqrjc?feature=share

A set of CHI or Yates D3 Cleveland heads would have made massive Horsepower on the last 427...Cleveland style canted valve heads make the most Horsepower on pretty much any SBF...windsor had the better bottom end but the Cleveland had the heads and intake to make some serious Horsepower...combine them both and build yourself a Clevor!

Best deal on street/strip heads for the windsor, are the bread and butter AFR 225's. Yes, there are others that can outflow them, but they cost a whole lot more too. Price for performance, the AFRs for the win, every time.

I'm curious what differences there would be with a similarly built stock block 416". I might engine swap my 351w e150 for better towing capabilities ie diesel would be best. I want at least 18 mpg unloaded which probably means stock cubes small cam with efficient heads like afr 165's...or a mild 6.0 LS but getting better than 14 mpg might be tough.

A lot of Cam companies or parts stores when they recommend a camshaft you can call them back two days later and they give you a total different grind with the same combination so who do you trust 😂
