Just subscribed your channel. Brother this is the most down to earth non-pretentious video I've seen from anybody in a long time. Thank you for just doing something straightforward for our benefit. Definitely an awesome channel.

Looking for a simple GMRS antenna to build and this looks like a good one. I wish you had included an SWR reading. Thanks for the video. I'm going to build one and give my 2 cents on it. I agree with @roaddogg5074 a 50 ohm coax would be the best choice. Schedule 125 PVC would make a light antenna.
@roaddogg5074
@roaddogg5074 Жыл бұрын
For the end, the jumper where you will connect your coax to, you are using a catv 75 ohm cable with a F-59 connertor that the shield will NOT solder into that antenna. You should use a proper 52 ohm. 58 or 8u mini with a PL259 or SO239 connector. Other than that, it looks good. One more thing, instead of taping the top where it will eventually allow water to seep inside, use a pvc end cap.

Why won't the shield solder to the antenna? If the antenna is correct, won't 75ohm give you a 1.5 SWR?

That was a pretty much basic how to video yeah, I was using the wrong coax and connectors, and I had no solder when I first got into this Radio hobby I’m using the right cable and everything now but yeah that’s just like a basic show like how to in the video is 7550 nice to have all those good tools that I have now but I didn’t back then it was pretty basic. If I'm not mistaken, the way you are soldering the coax it's actually transmitting with the 1/4 wave leg and not the 3/4 leg as most of the plans I've seen show. They are soldering the center conductor of the coax to the 19" leg and the shield to the 6" side. Seems like the 3/4 wave side might increase the performance. Just a thought.
@Gruuvin1
@Gruuvin1 Жыл бұрын
KB9VBR does his jpoles backwards like that too. I thought the same thing you did. Why do so many instructions stipulate the center conductor goes to the long leg? It's AC so do you think it matters?

What's the thickness of that PVC pipe? 200 psi or thicker? I don't understand about taping the gap in the copper wire ( how it's done). You should have showed each step and it would have been a great video . Some of us have never made an antenna before.
@arizonasadventures8827

the pvc is 450 psi and the gap is half inch you can download a antenna calculator from the app store and it will give you all the measurements you need ill do more in depth videos in the future. thank you for the comment.

Schedule 125 is thin and would make a light antenna.
@wordwalker3
@wordwalker3 3 ай бұрын
It looks like the pvc pipe you are using is thick walled PVC (with a higher pressure rating). This can actually adversely affect the power radiated from the antenna. Ed Fong, who designs and builds antennas specifically instructs people to use only the thin walled PVC for use with his antennas. You may want to consider changing to the thin walled tubing to get the max output from your antenna. Also, it looks like you are using 75 ohm cable, does that affect things at all?

There are so many things wrong with this video. You're using stranded wire instead of solid. You're using 450 psi pvc instead of 200 psi (too thick). You don't connect the feed wire. You don't trim it. You don't tune it. You don't show its performance. People who've made these may know that this will perform poorly. People who haven't made these will copy you and wonder why it doesn't work well, or wonder why their radio burned up after a few days.
