I built this whelping box, but out of pine which I varnished, and it works very well. I am in no way adept at carpentry so I appreciate all the tips very much. It's in use as my Border Collie finally decided it was the best place for giving birth to her 7 pups, and they are now 2 weeks old. One regret! I forgot to put the handles on, and it really would be useful as I almost squashed a paw when changing the underneath. . I'll have to wait for another couple of weeks, but it's really efficient design to replace the cotton mats I have, that do get stains. However, although the mother, FLY, is tall enough to get in without the entrance which remains open for the moment , her teats are heavy and do catch on the other edges, so for the moment I've put pipe insulation as a quick measure around the edges, but I'll probably change it soon before the little rascals get teeth and tear it to shreds. Plastic edging strip springs to mind. Brilliant design. Many thanks.

Great video: I know the poly is for durability but it can be deemed a "hazard" for puppies and dogs if they were to chew on the coated wood. Just 1 recommendation! List all the times used on your description (maybe even the price and where you got it from and that will be very useful). Besides that, your video was straight to the point and useful.
