Thanks Michael! Such a clear and easy to follow video. I've made these 3 times now and works well every time. The last time I doubled the dimensions of the brackets as will use for either a lumber rack or surf board rack for the garage. Thanks again!

David, Glad the video has helped you with your projects. We use the same design for our surfboards, too. Work perfectly. Thanks for the comment. MB

About time I find the exact video I've been searching for. As basic as it seems many folks showing us "how to videos" forget to include basic wood working for us weekend warriors..Thanks

Jackpot! I have been looking for a tutorial like this for a hot minute. Shelf framing like this goes for about $16 a piece. Nope! Thanks for the knowledge!

Why do you nail it together rather than screw it? Wouldn't screws be stronger?

So my shelves are gonna be abt 4' long and around 10-11" wide. So how long should the top piece and the back piece of wood on the brace be? Should it be as long as the board or a couple inches shorter? And I will be using the braces on every stud between the beginning of the shelf to the end of it.

Thanks!! This video seems to be exactly what I was looking for, however my only question is how did you measure and cut the braces that are angled between the brackets for support? does it matter how long they are? we're the ends cut at 45 degree angles to fit and match the overall 90 degree bracket angle? or is there more to it then that?

What are the measurements for the bracket pieces?

Hi, I just put up a counter and the metal bracket is not very strong. I need to make one 14 1/2 for the top , my question is would the bottom board be 15 then ? Thank you very much!
@michaelbronco11 жыл бұрын
Just use different material and round or shape the edges to meet your specs. You can use some 1x3 for the back and top, 1x3 turned vertical (or sideways for the bracket). That'll give you a more finished look without being too elaborate.

Supper easy to follow instructions! I personally just made 16 of these brackets for real barn board shelves from the 1940's. I required 5" and you can't purchase 16 good looking ones, at that size, on a tight budget. I need mine to look as if it is barn board as well so I get to mess around with paint before I assemble them. I liked your video because I don't own a brad nailer yet. Logically I have tons of wood kicking around and I'm not new at furniture restoration 12 years+, just new builds (like these 16 buggers). Why are they buggers? I don't own a power saw of any kind, just a straight saw & a trusty miter box. No kidding. You REALLY helped me & saved me lots of time. I do have a question: I had plans to pre-drill holes into the back & tops & counter sink holes for the screw heads. I think this will give me strength. Any reason you can think of, that this would be a bad idea? Thank you for your time. Thank you for reading my novel here lol, Keep up the great work & videos PLEASE!

Great! Thank you - but as I’m a beginner (age 66!) I need to see how you did the angle as well please
@robru4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kathryn, I’m not sure what tools you have but basically the angle will be a cut at 45 degrees.

Did you 45 the center piece of wood?

If you will turn your nail upside down and tap the tip with your hammer, blunting the tip before you drive it close to the wood's edge, it will prevent the wood from splitting in most cases. My dad was a professional framer for many years and this was a trick that he taught me.

While this looks great, I'm after nicer looking brackets and am struggling to find any that aren't elaborate.
