BUILDING A PLATFORM FOR SLEEPING ON IN FJ CRUISER CARGO SPACE

I love how you made this so simple. Like seriously people overcomplicate a bed platform for their fjs. But yours was so simple to the point. Nothing bad at all about it. Loved the video.

I built this and used it, it's fantastic! The only difference is I used an overall length of 73". I just leave the hatch folded back so I have enough room to position the seats for driving comfortably. Then just move the seats all the way forward and flip the panel forward. Magic! Thanks again!

Wow that's awesome! I am tall too. I don't want to set up camp every night or spend $125 for a room, plus I have a small dog 10lbs. You are the man!

Cool i am glad you like it ! I use it quite a lot . And it is much better than tent ⛺️. Rain , wind , cold , always cozy inside the FJ

Can't imagine sleeping in a FJ Cruiser at your height! I'm barely 6' and even with a platform it's not optimal. Learned from my first build where I tried to leave the rear seat functional which can work. I used scrap wood and the plywood was junk.

yeah it is tite but still manage to fit in . and it is only a couple of nights in it so it is doable

I see a potential problem accessing the jack on the left side in the rear. Perhaps a hinged section at the rear? I made a simple platform in the rear and the seats are still installed. The platform provides a flat area for my dog, and I have tow straps, chains, some tool, etc under the platform. I would like to install a second section forward and hinge the back section to it with another hinged section behind the front seats resulting in three sections with the center one tying the front and rear sections. Now if I only had a place to store the seat bottoms.

Cool set up! What size tires and lift kit do you have on your rig?
@colorado4x4adventures624 жыл бұрын
Mark Miguel i have old man emu 3 inch lift and 285s (33s) tires . And that thing is great . People spending extreme amounts of money in crazy suspensions and big 35s tires and they brake all the time on the trails . I witnessed many fails on expensive shit . I do a lot of off road and never ever had problems with this set up 👍 old man emu is well now all around the world 👍
@markmiguel33504 жыл бұрын
@@colorado4x4adventures62Thanks for the reply....I agree, OME lift kits are one the best and reasonably priced.

Thanks for the video, could you please mention the size of the hinge area? Like how long you cut off from the 70inch length to install hinge?
@colorado4x4adventures624 жыл бұрын
lw9 cc i can look at it later but basically I cut the plywood where is the edge of the folded seat . So when you open it it will give you access under and you can use the space as storage
@colorado4x4adventures624 жыл бұрын
lw9 cc just measured it’s 12 inches

Do you need the camping table under for support or add another 2by 4? Doesn’t flex in the middle?Thanks
@colorado4x4adventures623 жыл бұрын
You can add 2x4 if you like. I just have my table there because it fits in perfectly

@@colorado4x4adventures62 Thanks! Great easy build. Monday headed to hardware store. Did you mention how long you did the cut for the piano hinge? Keep up the good work. I’m psyched.

Did you secure the platform to the floor of the FJ? If not, did it move at all when you were driving it? Thanks for sharing
@colorado4x4adventures62 Жыл бұрын
Hi I didn’t secure it to the floor, the platform weighs quite bit plus I have stuff on top of that during a day , driving trails no problem with any movement at all
@JohnSmith-wv1ry4 жыл бұрын
How far up are your seats? I measured mine and 70 seems to push the seats up quite a bit to accommodate.
@colorado4x4adventures624 жыл бұрын
Yes the seats are all the way forward. To create much space as possible. That is why you make the folding door . Open up when driving around. My seat is all the way back . Camping sliding seat to front . Doors down 👍
@JetstreamChil4 жыл бұрын
If you carry 3 people in the car including yourself do you think a piano hinge down the long side to fold in half lengthwise for travelling with one rear passenger would work?
@colorado4x4adventures624 жыл бұрын
CheekyMonkey i am not sure because the rear seats are completely out . If you keep the seat in it won’t be flat.
@speedymedic194 жыл бұрын
@@colorado4x4adventures62 so then your overall height has to be bigger, to compensate for the seats., but in turn would create ample storage space under the bed. I would think using a hardwood such as Birch or Oak would be better than Doug Fir ply, to support the weight of two people? This gives me what I need to start on mine. Thx!
