The bravery required for live demo on stair and railings is no joke! A good overview, and glad you didn't skirt around the limitations and issues with the tool whilst still taking constructive angles on ways to wrestle with it.

Yeah, basically the Stair tool sucks! But you guys have it easy. I work with 3D Laser Scanning and the creation of as-built stairs. Try using these tools when stairs aren't uniform, they don't follow code, and they don't even have rhyme or reason. Great video, thanks for sharing.

I'm pretty good at stairs, but there was one guy who was a bit too next-level, even for me. He suggested building a monolithic stair for the concrete stair structure (neck etc.), then pasted the same stair again ON TOP OF IT and changed that to a non-monolithic stair (you may have to move it in front of the stair, to the thickness of your riser finish panel), only without the concrete base. So he essentially separated the concrete structure of the stair and the riser and tread panels of the stair. That way, you can accurately do a concrete set-out plan in Revit and hide the non-monolithic stair on top of it when you need the concrete plan. It's the same concept as splitting your walls into structural/cladding/lining/partitions, and joining your concrete floors to your finish 'floors'. I still like the detail at scales below 1:20 rule. But it was a good idea for accurate concrete drawings.

Interesting, I am in the process of developing a stair and railing course, but even in the Revit arch courses I run or in the conversation of Revit... I do say one could probably do fairly okay as a contractor that specialises in nothing but the stair and railing tool haha. Good content as always!

Unfortunately, the ladder tool is only an architectural tool, the designer needs to develop everything from scratch for the calculation in the specification. This applies to prefabricated and metal stairs.

Thanks for tuning in! I am using this one with the 17” BIMBOX …. It does a great job cooling and is very quiet (plus the lights are cool). It has a little “bounce” so may not be as solid as you want but I have been using it for almost 9 months now with no issue. amzn.to/3GwnFm8

@TheRevitKid this is excellent, as highly recommended by my CAD instructor. I have a better understanding on how to pay more attention to how the cursor is moving and what it creates. I completed some correctly finished basic drawings (no environment). I noticed this and it created a question that I asked while working on a live project. Why does Revit not stack or align the bottom of the stringer with the top of the skirting, and why does the skirting not follow the profile of the rise and the tread? No one would build a staircase like that in the field. I was warned not to get so involved in the details (hard not to do) since I am not an architect nor am I building the stairs. But, it just looks so wrong to me. Is there a way to change it somehow so it correctly executes it, or is a quick fix to fix it after drawing them? Thanks!

To do detailed stairs like that would have a very high LOD which is not common unless for shop drawings. I never cut a detail from a model it's always 2D. There are consequences cutting a detail from model once the model change all your details are crewed.
@TheRevitKid
@TheRevitKid Жыл бұрын
Paul and I agree with most of your sentiment … but, Paul was clear in using “hybrid” sections because you WANt to see when the model changes so you can update your details … the amount of change orders I see on a weekly basis that could have been resolved with the detail was hybrid and not completely drafted in a void of model would amaze people

that's not the best response, revit is just fabulous when you correctly use it, it's just that the stair and railing tools plus the site tools are terrible, many times i need to use in-place models to be able to document correctly and be able to respond to the client's needs.
