Let's try to get the high ground, and find the path of either a Jedi or a Sith with this Star Wars themed build for Dungeons and Dragons

Overall, I think this is a really solid build for a general Jedi or Sith character. I think arguments could be made for almost any class or multiclass combo to be used as Jedi/Sith-style characters, especially if you are trying to make specific characters from the franchise (like Vader would be a perfect Conquest Paladin). But as general concept build, one that can give you basically all the things you need, I think this works really well
@dndbuilds
@dndbuilds 2 жыл бұрын
I think Conquest Paladin works great in theory for Vader, but I can't help but think of how uncharismatic Anakin is, and knowing that is a prime stat for Paladin's I just couldn't bring myself to do it.
@fightingfalcon777
@fightingfalcon777 2 жыл бұрын
@@dndbuilds I actually think Anakin is extremely charismatic, looking at the way the 501st basically adored him and he had become arguably the biggest war hero of the Clone Wars. And as for Vader, it may be based more on fear and intimidation, but the man has charisma, too, in terms of presence and everything. Plus, I would say Charisma fits for Anakin/Vader having this inherently super powered connection to the Force

If I were just going Jedi I definitely would have leaned that way. But once I needed some force lightning involved, I knew I'd have to get some real casting in there. But a straight Jedi could easily go psi warrior and just grab the Magic Initiate feat for charm person for a little Jedi mind tricks, and you'd be all set.
@ralphderbyshire6393
@ralphderbyshire6393 2 жыл бұрын
I think you’d like the build I did, I took 2 levels of Bladesinger to start, 12 levels of Psi Warrior, and 6 of Kensei Monk. Among the feats I took were Defensive Duelist and Dexterity Resilience. I figured your average Jedi wears robes but is next to impossible to hit. So, if Bladesong is active, you have 25 natural AC(assuming you have 20 in Dex, Wis, and Int) + 2 for the Kensei, +6 for the Defensive Duelist, giving you 33 Unarmored AC. Also let’s you Deflect Missiles and Featherfall naturally.

A Jedi/Sith/Force-User build that I’ve done combines Psi Warrior fighter, Hex Blade Warlock and Paladin. Paladin was kind of general because I was just trying to build the weapon to act like a lightsaber, but Devotion Paladin’s sacred weapon divinity works well thematically. Also tried doing it as a Hex Blade Warlock and College of Swords Bard. The main idea of the builds is that the character can move in combat like it’s been choreographed, as though they have precognition which is why Charisma is such a large part of it.

Another way to build a Sith is Eldritch Knight. Lightning Lure and Shocking Grasp work well as a combo. Catapult is a nice 1st level spell to have to force throw any 5 lb object. Two feats, Telekinetic and Telepathic. I also used Tasha's Custom Lineage to create a Chiss. Dark Vision, +2:Intelligence, and Telekinetic feat.

I know this video was posted one year ago and i haven't gotten to watch it before now, but I gotta say ... I am surprised the Fighter Subclass Psi Warrior wasn't picked. Speaking of Psi Warrior, here's an idea; Your first level is gonna be Fighter for that constitution saving throw, following by grabbing 6 levels into fighter for that Ability Score improvement so you can max your stats and optional feats a little better as well as getting extra attack 1 level earlier. - Additionally you have an OK-ish health recovery with Second Wind (Like Jedi/Sith Meditation), plus action surge, of which you can use to cast your spells with. Then I would go Bladesinger Wizard the rest of the way, that makes you level 14 bladesinger, that gives you the Song of Victory feature, plus you have access to 7th level spell. - Sadly we won't reach 8th or 9th level spell slots, but honestly those godlike powers that comes with that, "USUALLY" doesn't fit your standard wizard. Spells I would grab which sadly won't be until a little later (Depending on how you pick your levels in the earlier games), Is Shadow Blade, that gives us a magic buzzing blade that deals psychic damage, which could be your Lightsaber going forward. And to my knowledge, you -CAN- use your Bladesong features with it! Pros; INSANE consecrations/Con Save. A bit more Health thanks to fighter hit die. Proficiency with all weapons and armor. Fighting Style+Action Surge! And early game FORCE powers which has GREAT synergy with high intelligence with that "Psyonic Energy Die". Cons; Lower amount of spellslots, and no access to anything greater than a single 7th level spellslot. Making higher casting less prominent.

I see why Wizard(Bladesinger) made sense...but I still think Paladin or Monk might be intuitively better, but I'm a newb when it comes to 5e DND rules, so who knows. The WotC Star Wars RPG was the last time I played table top RPGs (almost 20 years ago). Its been a while, but as I remember it they had a tough time properly having a Jedi class and balancing it against the others classes. As I recall they ended up relying a lot on prestige classes (it was a way less complex system than 5e DND) to differentiate types of Jedi.
@dndbuilds

I hear you on going with a paladin, one of the main reasons I didn't go that route was just because charisma is such an important part of being a paladin and that just didn't feel right. Even though charisma could be an arguably good thing depending on which specific sith or Jedi went with. But as a more common role that's not an all-out leader I didn't want to focus on charisma, another great choice would have been an Eldritch knight fighter, but I just wanted a little more versatility with the spell casting and I know people refer to Jedi's as space wizard so I really just wanted to lean into that a bit.

@@dndbuilds I did a little research (still very very far from your expertise). I feel like a mix of Monk/Wizard -- with the mix defining whether you're more of a lightsaber Jedi or a force-power Jedi -- might better than straight Wizard. The Ki mechanic for the Monk class is very applicable to reproducing the dynamics of the Force. And a lot of the Monk sub-classes approach some of the portrayals of the Force -- Astral Self, Kensei, and Open Hand specifically. (Of course this is because the Force was largely inspired by the same real world concepts in martial arts and eastern philosophy.)

After rewatching some star wars, I kept thinking about how I would make this in Dungeons and dragons. My first idea was a monk who multiclasses with a couple levels of wizard. That way you have all the fighting skills and staff skills of a jedi, with the so-called magic abilities such as Force lightning in telekinesis with the wizard. Also you can probably substitute the monk with a fighter, efficient with swords and other weapons. Something along those lines Maybe, but a wizard or a sorcerer is always seems to be required for the force abilities.

I tried to make a specific Jedi/Sith character build once, based on Revan from the Old Republic era, and largely went the same in regards to the build here... But with slightly different stat allocations based on the lore of Revan as well as adding some Levels in Fighter taking the Battle Master sub-class and Artificer with the Battle Smith sub-class. For the former it's largely based on how Revan was regarded as a master tactician and able to command and change the tide of battle with his presence and charisma, so the Maneuvers worked pretty well based on that to try and gain advantages while imposing disadvantages. The latter is largely based on how Revan built HK-47 on his own, but the benefit of using your Intelligence Modifier in place of either Strength or Dexterity for weapon attacks when using a magical weapon just works way too well.

I feel like animate objects is a good spell for replicating those times force users telekinetically lifted a bunch of smaller objects and used them all to bash against an opponent. I'd also say there's good reason for charisma because Jedi could be persuasive diplomats and sith were typically very intimidating. There's a difference between George Lucas writing very wooden dialogue and the fact that in universe they were typically pretty charismatic. Of course we only have limited stat points to work with so...

I think Khonshu might be a bit difficult since he's actually a god, but they do actually have some moon gods in DnD. 3 level artificer battle Smith Level 1 you can make your blade glow any color you want. Level 2 make my yklwa come back to me me like using the force. Light crossbow that magically reloads itself. (Chewbaccas blaster) Level 3 get a Droid because of battle smith. Did 6 levels after that as a eldritch knight Duel wielder feat. Fighting style duel wielding. So I do 2 attacks with the "light saber" and 1 attack with my "blaster" I ended with not that good of rolls except 1 so my int is 20 by level 9. So I get a plus 10 to hit and damage. Unless they are bigger them me. If they are bigger I do an extra 3 because I'm a goblin. So I have an average of 17 damage 3 times a round. Also took the telekinetic (int) feat. Might just do 2 yklwa for duel wielding "light saber and get the war caster at level 11. Or just Make a ruby of the war mage because I am an artificer. I am a little worried by the assertion that Wizard is a better way to model a Jedi/Sith than a Sorcerer, Warlock, Paladin, etc. I mean, it's a different game / universe and everyone is free to build their characters the way they want, but in the Star Wars universe, bloodlines are *100%* where force powers come from. Even before the "midichlorians" thing ("gamifying" the concept) the notion of being born force sensitive is baked into the setting. And, *no* amount of training or intellect can make you force sensitive if you are not. In D&D, someone with zero innate talent can go to Wizard school and, through determination, training and Intelligence, learn to use magic. In the Star Wars universe, the Jedi/Sith would not even *try* to train someone who wasn't born with an innate force sensitivity. Force users "feel the force flowing through them". They don't "watch the force being used, study it and learn to manipulate it". Jedi/Sith training is more about teaching a padawan how to access their own innate talents and enforcing a code to determine how those talents are used. Then, there's the notion of Intelligence (knowledge, aptitude, etc) vs Charisma (animal magnetism, willpower, etc). One of these things is possessed by all force users. The other is the ability score used by all Wizards as their casting attribute. Besides, if you want to play a force user in D&D, just play a fighter and take the Psi Warrior subclass. This feels perfect for a force user mechanically/thematically. Even if this subclass also uses Intelligence as a secondary stat. Also, the Soul Knife Rogue. Personally, I would use the Aberrant Mind or Clockwork Soul Sorcerous Origins, with dips into Hexblade Warlock / Psi Warrior / Paladin to add the lightsaber combat. Or even a Kensei Monk. Barbarian would be wonderful for representing a Sith Warrior who really leans into aggression to fuel their combat... If you can find a build that works around the inability to cast spells while in Rage. Or, just check out SW5e. It's literally a reskin of the DnD 5e rules for playing Star Wars campaigns. sw5e.com/ (it's free!)

If you want a lightsaber and can't convince your DM to hand you a Sun Blade, you should go Paladin for the *radiant damage* ... which really does push you more towards Sorcerer for a spellcasting class. Or possibly Hexblade if you're planning to turn to the Dark Side. 😈 Witch Bolt is possibly the worst level 1 spell in the game, and I literally cannot comprehend why build-makers keep recommending it. If you absolutely *must* do lightning damage before 5th level (and remember it's supposedly a Master-level discipline that Darth Vader never learned), take Chromatic Orb, for Gawd's sake. And Bladesinger is possibly the worst possible choice for a Jedi, fallen or not. *EVERY JEDI* fights two-handed, which *IMMEDIATELY* breaks the bladesong. If you insist upon basing Jedi on INT rather than CHA or WIS, the start out as a Psi Warrior for the psionic powers ... it was obviously modeled after Star Wars anyway ... and then take enough War Wizard to boost your saves and garner whatever Jedi mind tricks or defensive boosts you want or need, including Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning if you insist. But quit suggesting we try to turn Bladesingers into hand-to-hand fighters. They're terrible at it.
