Start to finish on how to build a custom set of down and forward turbo headers. The kit is from Motion Raceworks, be sure to check them out!
Feel free to ask away in the comments! I’m always active and answering the questions.
Stay tuned as I dive into the work required to build and maintain the cars I create from this 2-Car garage. Future projects will include fab work and welding, general welder setup and tutorials, chassis work, weight reduction, suspension plotting and setup, wiring, tuning, boost controller setup, power management, racing videos, ice cream cruises, etc.

I do the vband on the collector first, use the other side of the vband to make a mount to keep the collector in place, build all the tubes to the collector and weld out the tubes 1 at a time and check them since they will move slightly. Put it all back on the car and tack to the flange. Pull it off and weld the star and then the collector. Also when I do the tubes into the flange I cut a small section of stright try and aim for 1/16 to 1/8 maximum and use it as a spacer inside the flange to keep the tubes all ar the same distance for welding the inside

What I normally do is first weld a V band on the collector and then with scrap and a sacrificial v band I make a little stand for the collector with a v band clamp holding it together and in the place I want it. And then the collector never moves. Build each primary to the collector with tack welds. After finished with all 4. Break it apart. Weld all primaries. And pretty much can figure out the rest

A lot of guys have shield gas directly hosed into the header so that you can efficiently weld the inner portion of the collector without having a crusty weld in there.

What would you consider high amps? I’m welding these with header primaries with like 40-50 amps.

@@StreetCarJoe i usually tack around 90amp 16 gauge 304ss, no gap, pedal to the metal for 1-1.5 seconds, no filler material, obviously very very clean material.

I see fabricators tack it to the collector then the flange then take the collector off and weld the star in then the collector back on and then finish out the flange

Really nice work Joe!! What did you use to cut the tubing and how well did marking it out on the table do? I’m about to start building a set of zoomies for my fox. Any help is appreciated!
@StreetCarJoe
@StreetCarJoe Жыл бұрын
Harbor freight band saw and belt sander. Works good. The marking on the table worked good. Once I got a bunch of good angle scraps to use as mock-up, that helped a ton as well...

Where are you putting wastegates? Are they so short and tight that you will have backpressure issues or cause boost creep? Your work is amazing. Just curious what the size of the exhaust side is and how will you tackle those few things.

Headers look amazing, Any concerns with how close the headers are to brake lines and fuel pump
@StreetCarJoe
@StreetCarJoe Жыл бұрын
It has a solid 1” all around the fuel pump and even further around any brake line. I do have some concern around the pump and will be heat shielding and taking the appropriate precautions.
@timmurray7639
@timmurray7639 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the insight I wasn't sure how close you could get to the brake lines and pump. When you cram a ton of stuff in a tight space room gets limited quickly

Questions did you go back and open the tubes back to the original dimensions so as not to create a choke point at your collectors, and at the header flanges. Because it appears that you actually intruded into the inside dimensions. I know that you probably know this, but you have to hold your tubing connections to be smooth on the inside as you do the outside. Don't take this as negative towards your work, but as useful information to add to your knowledge and abilities. Out standing effort just in taking on something that is a fitters/fabricators/welders least favorite part of the job. Especially no more experience than you have, not disrespecting you by any means. You have accomplished what takes many three times longer to get to where you're at. No one can say that you don't put forth every effort to be the best at what you've chosen to do, especially considering its the part time job.. I can only imagine what you have accomplished in your field. Much respect for you're sheer drive to be top tier at whatever you decide to take on. I'm sure that you have some very satisfied customers, and from them I believe that you're probably fixing to be swamped with customers wanting you to do their builds, and or upgrades.

@StreetCarJoe
@StreetCarJoe Жыл бұрын
Not so much anymore. If you are going for a max power all motor setup, then something like primary length can matter. Big boosted build, dont matter. Guys make crazy power with log manifolds or flowtech heads with unequal length...
