When using the image burn program always use AWS speed setting, it will be perfect every time. What it does is it will auto adjust the speed as needed for each cd-r disc. It also works on other console games as well.

"MAX" also depends on the writing speed of your burner drive. I use KODAK to burn 3DO games at the lowest (1x), but my ImgBurn automatically says that the lowest supported is 4x, but that still works fine!

Strange that it took 2 tries to boot and the verification part also took longer than normal but fmvs played smoothly. Anyway, I also read lately that for current media with current burners, max speed gives better results than trying to force low burning speeds.

Normally the MAX speed configuration doesn't work properly. I used the swap disc method, and what happened was the picture was too slow, but the sound worked fine

Thanks mate. This was the first and only video I needed to watch to solve my issues. Very simple. EDIT: For other users - I switched to imgburn, writing at max speed, and using 15 year old TDK CD-R's with no problems. I knew this stack of CD's would come in handy one day :P

I have to be honest, I'm a little reluctant to try this, only because I've seen claims online that burning at 52x can actually damage your playstation's laser over a period of time. I'm still going to take your advice of course but if somebody could comment and maybe put my mind at ease I'd be quite interested in hearing some feedback.

Though Verbaitim is a good brand, by FAR the best are the JVC Taiyo Yuden CDR's and DVDR's. They are the highest quality disc out there. They work great on the stubborn 100x PS1 consoles, 3000x PS2 consoles, Sega Saturn and even Mega CD.

Awesome video btw, what is true what you said in your video is 100% true. I have used Maxell blank discs in the past and it was a waste of money, they burn with tons of errors and my Dreamcast won't read them at 2X it would recognize them as a music CD and if I increase the speed to 14X or 16X they work perfectly but still I wouldn't absolutely not recommend any other brand than Verbatim for blank media discs for gaming consoles. Also burning the games at a lower speed can break your laser in a short period of time because the laser needs to put more power to read the discs because it burns a lot deeper than faster speeds, so yeah I totally agree with you. the problem is that cd-r now have a minimum burn speed of 16x. even if you select to burn at a slower speed it will burn at a fast speed closer to 16x. my old cd-r that were burn at a slower speed of 4x and 8x, all can be read fine by the playstation 1. newer cdr can be played on a ps3 with cfw easily though

do you know something about FMVs not playing any sound? i put a modchip in my ps1, if I burn Soul Reaver, there is no sound in the start videos when EIDOS appears and in the intro video there is also no sound, ingame when Raziel speaks there is no voice but the background musik and sounds are playing... i just want to play some old PS1 games :(

I have two question, like every time when in want to start a burned game on my PS it shows just the PlayStation Logo and I have to turn the system on and of several times until it works. Also some games (Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2) are booting fine with the max speed burned disk but won't load in game (Disk swap method with ja 2x burned copy, no Problem), do you have any idea what could be the Probleme? Im using the Verbatim Disks, burning with ja external Apple Superdirve. My other Question is how do I burn games with lot of .ape files? Thanks a lot and sorry for my English

When I burned Rockman 5 Complete Works (Japan only port of Mega Man 5), I set it to AWS (MAX speed by default) and the Capcom logo is slowing down just like your Atlus logo, but the worst part is is that doesn't load the game at all. Before it was completely finished I got a sector error and I'm not sure if it's that, but most of my other games play fine (maybe some Audio FMV skipping issues but still). EDIT: I used another PC and it’s been fixed, it works fine now.

I pulled a dvd burner out of an old computer. I burn all mine at 4x and now they're perfect, If I burn above 4x I get sound or graphics glitches.

Thanks for the video, I just hate this topic so much though man, whatching these videos drain me, every video it's conflicting information, with the PS2 and PS1 burning, you'll have one video saying only DVD-R works and in the next, its only DVD+R for the best results, or Cd-R, you know what I mean. Its just one of them things I suppose that hinges on so many little details to be done right and the specifics will be different for everyone depending on what model PlayStation, laser strength, disc type, dvd burner type, operating system, burner software, write speed, and so much more, man this things bugging me like crazy and to hear that even done perfectly some games still lag horrible makes it even worse, I only wanted to do this to play PS1 & PS2 games that are too expensive to pay for outright, but now I'm thinking I'd save more time and money and have better quality just buying the damn things :'(

Came here cause having issues running Doom PSX on my PSone with boot disc. All other games seem to work fine but Doom will not US or JP , both just freeze after initial video. Trying to figure out if disc, image, unit or mod being used.

I have a question: Sometimes when I download a game on an emulation site such as Emuparadise, the file that it gives you contains a game divided into multiple tracks (e.g.: I tried downlading Tomb Raider and it came into 57 different tracks, all of them being BIN files, which can´t be burned onto a cdr as far as I´m aware and no CUE file to be seen. This game I downloaded through Coolroms). I was wondering if you knew what I should do with said tracks, as when I try selecting them all together, imgburn rejects them displaying the same message as the one shown in the video when you tried burning the bin file onto the disc. Would you know the solution to this by any chance?

Hello! Have you tried burning games like Time Crisis Project Titan? Sometimes once burned, games like this will appear as audio CDs in the console instead of games. I'm following a proper procedure using CloneCD.

I used to have a CD writer that could write at 4x speed. Anything bigger than that has never worked for me and DVD writers have never worked for me. Also I can't remember my burning software but I do know it wasn't Nero. I only ever copied disc to disc thou so I don't know if it would work with a downloaded disk image. But at least they are made to work on a copy.

The normal bin and cue file downloads worked very well for me. (eventhough I dont think I have a modded PS1) But there are also downloads that have just a emc file. Do I have to burn it with a different burner or change it to a iso? Because the EMC files are not showing up on the img burn. What do i have to do to mod my PS1?

I tried your method but it didn't work. I burned it to a CD with bin and cue files and it worked. Is the problem related to this? The site you show as an example has a few bin files and it doesn't work when you print it.

What's the max speed for those Verbatim DataLife discs? I only use verbatim for everything, including archival purposes. The discs i have currently are rated 52x max, printable, and have azo dye. I burned 100's of PlayStation back-ups way back in the day (the 90's), where max speed on cdr media and Yamaha and Ricoh drives would have been 16x, with 4x speed being the sweet spot, otherwise you'd end up with alot of mug coasters. I guess with newer drives and discs things have changed. Also it's worth mentioning that some PlayStation images were backed up using Clone CD, and they come with ccd files and sometimes no cue file, so you can not burn those with image burn! Cheers.

Burning at the slower speed worked fine,I used to do it at 2x and 4x. Back in the 90's when psx came out, technology was different, we had ide drive, now it's sata drive, that might be why. Back then we had to do work around for the studders. Nero was the best ripper and cdrwin Cheap Fry's electronics gold disc was the best cdr for the psx

I tested some CD-Rs on my MM3 chipped ps1 SCPH-5501, has a KSM-440ADM laser, burned them at 8x speed with imgburn on my LG DVD-RW drive, used my Gran Turismo 2 Simulation Mode (USA) iso Verbatim (CMC) - works Sony - Doesn't work, just goes to the browser screen or sometimes gives me the Personified fear or Fearful harmony Memorex - Doesn't work, stuck on Playstation logo or gives me the Personified fear or Fearful harmony Verbatim (Mitsubishi chemical) - works Fujifilm (Taiyo Yuden) - works

UPDATE: Don't use Max anymore use AWS it's mean (automatic write speed), so it will burn it at the right speed every time. NOTE: Some games will lag no matter what kind of CD-Rs you get but the ones I link you are the best ones I can find. Please don't ask if your PS2 or PS3 can do this because I don't know, you have to look it up online. The reason I put 2021 in the title is that it still works to this day.

I just download ff7 first disc, when I open the cue file with imgburn it tells me the file size is 747 mil bytes while the free space on the disc is 736 mil bytes but the free time on the cd is higher than the time the file would occupie, can I still burn the disc or will I need to buy higher capacity cd’s?
