Not quite no. But privilege is correct, we do not have an enshrined right in our constitution like the second amendment, and it does require licensure and come with restrictions. is what it is. different countries different rules.

unfortunately you will have to wait till the Conservatives get in and repeal C21 as you cannot currently buy a handgun. Current owners are allowed to keep/shoot their but there is no buying/selling/transferring right now. You can still get a shotgun or hunting rifle though (with a licence of course)

If you’re in Canada, there’s no way you’ll obtain a handgun unless you have a RPAL (Restricted Possession and Acquisition License) meaning you have to be in the Military or Law enforcement. Not under the current Government as it is.

Only 8 different guns were banned in 2020. The Tavor was not banned. Full auto weapons have been banned since the 70s, as they are in the United States. Semiautomatics are still legal.

So like 900 of the rifles they banned are AR15's just made by different manufacturers. Oh they also banned some shoulder-fired anti-aircraft launchers like the Stinger. Because apparently we also had too many aircraft being shot down in Canada.

Don’t believe everything. It’s called misinformation. Haha. It’s to scare people and a Deterrent , people are simple, they hear they can’t they won’t try.

A huge number of them are banned. You can get .22, .223, etc though. Mostly the government will ban anything that can result in full auto or an extended magazine. We also have a lot of rules around transportation and storage. Amount of ammo you can purchase at a time, etc. We also run mental health checks, and the system will do a criminal check on you each year automatically. If a red flag shows up the police will come by to confiscate them. It's never been a problem for me because I don't buy hundreds of rounds at one time and I also don't do criminal stuff.

yes 9mm and the Kriss Vector has a crazy recoil management system anyway. I have shot the semi-auto Kriss here in Canada as well as full auto with suppressor in Vegas and it has no recoil. The rimfire version doesnt have the same recoil management system but it doesnt need it

I’m sure it helps somewhat. However, it’s far quicker and easier to obtain a firearm illegally for a person with criminal intent. The system we have may filter out a few nutters but I’m not sure it’s better than the American system. I think a hybrid system might be interesting, sort of a 2a with mandatory training and re-qualification. Obviously, certain mental disorders and criminal offences would disqualify you from exercising that right. I just hate this imperious governmental idea of bestowing some privilege upon the select few like a knighthood.
