Not even kidding, just followed step by side on this video, broke my chain from the first attempt taking the prism off. camera came from Japan cant even send it back now :(

You guys forget something. The chain ONLY breaks when you remove TTL prism (little arm attached to the prism). In this video he didnt have TTL prism but just a normal one. You can’t break the chain with such prism because there is no needle inside the prism, it’s that needle 🪡that breaks the chain .

Caught that as well. A very important detail. - remove lens first, then prism When re-installing, do it in reverse. - install prism, then lens Essentially don’t have a lens mounted when removing or installing the prism.

There are two manuals for the 6x7 and only the older one mentions it. Before I bought my 6x7 I watched a couple of videos of this camera and almost everyone got the disassembly wrong...Was really hoping that Nico would get it right. Good video, tho.

This. You don't have to remove the prism to swap lenses and you can remove the prism with a lens on. You MUST remove the lens to re attach the prism though.

If it's really really bad, your shooting with an 81a filter. so really not a problem.

You can reduce the yellowing by exposing the lens to UV light (by using a UV lamp or by leaving it in the sunlight)

@@mrdasboot45 Don't think I would subject it to the New Zealand sun so will put some film through it first and check the results. UV lamp looks like the safer option for the lens if I really have to.

It does go back to initial position only when it made the full turn. If you advance and stop in the middle or in the beginning , or before the end it will stay . You know why ? Because when you load a film inside Pentax 67 you have to advance carefully and put « start » mark to the dot inside camera’s body. Usually the advance lever will be in the middle . So imagine if it come back , oh god how you can install film? You will lose tension of the film. This is why the advance lever will only come back once it made full turn

The 6x7 mirror-up is the one to get. The 67 version is the same as the 6x7. So many were made that the die stamp for the camera wore out! So the new stamp had a Bold Font 67 printed. This will indicate that it is a more recent made example. So these will cost a bit more, but worth it. Like any modern Digital DSLR or Mirror Less camera. Always carry spare batteries. So the Pentax 6X7 was a precursor to modern day cameras in this battery issue. The silver oxide batteries that I used would last an eternity before being replaced. Unlike the all mechanical 6x6 Pentagon or Kiev 66 SLR type medium format 120 cameras that had all kinds of film advance, internal light reflection and shutter issues. The electronic Pentax shutter is accurate and has NO light reflection or film advance issues, So long as the camera is NOT abused by the user. The SMC lenses were superior to the then current Zeiss optics in terms of sharpness, color rendition, lack of ghosting and very high contrast levels. No wonder they became the favorite kit for Fashion Photographers. Especially for B&W Fashion and Mountaineering photography. A massive collection of lens options to choose: from a 35mm full frame fisheye to a Mammoth Sized 1000mm reflex Super Telescope lens. Solid as a tank that can be used as Street Protection too!!!! Ha! The camera bodies are robust and like a Timex Watch, they take a licking and keep on ticking. The fact that in this Digital Age, these analog film cameras are still in demand and fetch high prices in the used market are all you need to know. There are also techs who will service these camera. Purchase the book: Medium-Format Cameras by Theodore DeSante . It contains a detailed chapter on the Pentax 6x7. A great reference to medium format Analog Film camera from the 1980's. They were a bargain compared to a 6x6 Hasselblad. A new Pentax 6x7 body ran for $400, while a Hasselblad A12 Film Back would cost $600!!! So Pros would use 4-6 Pentax 6x7 bodies to a shoot instead of a modular systems Medium Format kit. Because different bodies were used, you had far less wear on a camera body than using a single body interchangeable back camera Kit.

Yes, the normal 6x7, 67 have a TTL prism. The 67II has its own version with 3 modes.

It’s normal. Pentax 67 isn’t being made anymore . The world’s stock is diminishing, cameras breaks and people looking for replacements. Wedding photographers such as me , need 4-8 back up bodies. The camera is getting rare so the price is jumping yes.

@@Pentax67 to me even just the fact that their advancing mechanism slowly but surely jams up, is hilarious seeing how people are willing to pay for these things. Like, only for that they should cost half of a mint Bronica ETRSi as far as I'm concerned, and still.. people will throw hundreds of € to these.

When you look at the 6x7 transparencies on a light table, only then can you'll understand the need for a 6x7 camera. Not just a Pentax 6x7! But Mamiya or Bronica will do just as well. The Pentax 6x7 SLR design made it a natural progression for someone moving from a 35mm SLR system kit.@@Photo_Cyclist

In timeline the first was the 6x7 non-MLU, followed by the 6x7 MLU, then the 67 and last the 67II. So in theory the 67 is newer and better than the MLU.

The 135mm is one of the best and undervalued lenses. Keep it and enjoy the lens for as long as you cab.

No it’s not better. MLU and non MLU are just same cameras and you will get same photos. It’s just the absence of mirror luck up. But that feature is too overrated. And many youtubers don’t know what they talk about. So everyone thinks MLU is way to go. Almost no one is using mirror lock up. Especially in portraits or weddings , you don’t need mirror lock up feature. Now it’s not because one model is newer that it’s better. You have to pick up the body which is the least abused ... especially close to as new condition. The choice is pretty straightforward : it’s better to pick up non mlu body which is « as new » rather than beaten up or used MLU.

You do not have to remove the prism to remove the lens, a major mistake here. Further, you do not have to remove the lens if you are removing the TTL prism and replacing it with any of the other viewfinders (Normal prism; waist level finder, etc). The warning applies only to when a 6x7 or 67 body has no finder mounted and you want to mount a TTL metering finder. Only then, you must remove the lens before mounting the finder, then remount the lens in a normal manner. This allows the linkage between the lens and the TTL finder to properly engage. Conversely, if a lens is mounted (first), and the TTL prism is snapped into place on the body, the meter linkage may not properly mesh with the lens aperture control. (And then break the famous little chain.) It's pretty simple to understand, does not interfere with normal use of the camera and lenses, and not applicable unless you are using the TTL metering prism.

Nooooo, you can go from a fisheye 35mm to a 1000mm. For example, 45mm, 55mm, 75mm, 90mm, 105mm, 120mm, 135mm, 150mm, etc....

Pentax 67 has the biggest lens selection of any medium formers and 35 mm ...

Its the official one. Its pretty big.

The PH-SB 67 is even larger and bigger

They are getting hard to find at old prices, but they still deliver amazing results. The Mamiya Universal is great but the rangefinder is a pain to calibrate, and this is from my own personal experience.

I shoot with both a Pentax 6x7 and Mamiya Universal. The Universal is unmatched as far as format choices are concerned: 6x4.5, 6x6, 6x7 and 6x9 formats are possible!!! Good shuttered lens selection and a massive amount of accessories to choose from. The M or G adapter lets you use Mamiya or Graflex back devices. The Polaroid back was fun to use with the multi lens adapter (two or four images). You can either use the Rangefinder or a Direct focus adapter. My favorite being the 45 degree direct view finder. The wide angle lens finders are joy to use. These Mamiya Rangefinder cameras were a natural progression from a 35mm rangefinder camera user to medium format photography. Much the same way that the Pentax 6x7 was the progression from 35mm SLR camera user into the Medium Format shooting world. These modular rangefinder cameras replaced the BULKY and Cumbersome Graflex 4x5 cameras of the day. In the analog still camera days, these camera helped to make Roll Film photography popular. I would be re-missed not to mention the Singer or Super High Priced Linhoff Roll film cameras of yore too.@@NicosPhotographyShow

I have had a few Pentax jam on me but I got them at half price from todays market. Still can be fixed but pissed me off while at jobs.
