In 2020 we bought a sailboat to sail around the world. We spent a couple of months looking for the right boat and in this video we take you along with us as we hunt down the perfect boat for us. We looked at so many boats, new and old, at Hallberg Rassy, Najad, Amel, and Contest before finally buying Adhara, a Contest 48CS in the UK.

I was following all the sailing stories in KZfaq with a dream of sailing in day . But everyone kept suggesting me it’s impossible for me to achieve this dream as sailing is only for those people from western countries who are settled and for person from third world countries it’s just gonna be a dream . I have watched many videos of sailing first being SV seldoes, but donnno why I really like your videos and hope someday even i will sail someday . Your video have really inspired me . Good luck sis and hope to catch up with two someday in coming years in ma own sail boat . Happy sailing sailing around the world .

Looks like a really nice boat, personally I'm not a fan of mast/headsail furling because if you're in a storm and it jams up you're screwed. I've heard of people having to cut halyards in the thick of it because of a jammed/broken furler . Most people love them for ease of use, but just be careful.

Good luck. You definitely bought a lot bigger boat than two people need but if you can afford the running cost, go for it. I'm sure you've planned ahead.

Nice and very safe boat, I bought my 2004 Najad 490 in 2019 in the south of France and this year I sailed to the Greek islands after spending last winter in Italy. having a center cockpit is a safe choice and more comfortable to have the size of boat you chose. no doubt. wish you fair wind and following seas...

If you get a longer, lighter mono, then they can be as fast as most cats and are more forgiving to sail. Look at a Sundeer or Deerfoot. I have a Sundeer 60. It's the same displacement as your boat, but with a smaller rig. Everything is done from the cockpit. I get 200 mile days 85% of the time. If the apparent is over 12.5 knots and 60⁰ AWA or more then that's a guaranteed 200 mile day. Our best days are over 220 miles. It's comfortable, easy to sail and very safe with two watertight bulkheads.

There are other boats that are interesting...an Adams 54, some Radford or Paine designs, like a Kanter 52 or Bougainvillea.

I know what you mean. I can find several boats I like that are great coastal cruisers but finding a ocean going live aboard is a total different story 😅

Great video guys! One question, how do you compare the 44cs over the 48cs? Aside of the evident length increase, speed etc, From what I can see the layout is similar, except on the third cabin (bunk beds), right? Does the rest of the boat have the same size (aft cabin/head, galley, chart table, saloon)? or is it all a bit more crammed? How about winches My wife and I love your boat, and hope to be looking at upgrading our current boat soon, and dreaming of a Contest (44 or 48cs) Thanks!

Thank you, great to hear. On the inside they are very similar and the 44 is not more cramped (except for missing the third cabin). However both tanks, water and diesel, are much smaller and so is the cockpit. These two factors made us go for the 48. Where are you guys based?

Hi James, thanks for this. Yes we wish we had met the owner for an instruction to all systems on board but we had to figure that part out ourselves but the learning curve was steep :)

Maybe I missed it, but did you actually say the cost of your boat? We know costs are all relative to what each of us can afford, but we still want to know how much a boat like that costs so we can see if it's feasible for us, and if we are getting a good deal for the boats we do decide to purchase...
