I hope this video helps you make the right selection to protect your floors. We primarily sell caster cups from Jansen. We have caster cups made of hardwoods, plastic and lucite in different sizes.

Start by checking to make sure the legs are solidly attached and then check the leg joints for movement. The caster cups would not affect this behavior, but moving the piano can.

It was not rocking before they added the caster cups though. Is like there is a little bit of space for the tire to move back and forth within the the cup just enough to make it distracting when playing. Gonna check with the piano dealer Thanks

But... wouldn't the ones without felt on the bottom scratch hardwood floors over the years? Even if they are perfectly smooth, tiny bits of grit might get in there...

Dear Alice...that's really not how that works. Nothing gets in over time. Stained or unfinished wood is safe to be in contact with finished floors for decades under the weight of a piano. Under the weight of a piano, there is a reasonable risk that felt will adhere to the finished floors over time. For lighter objects, this isn't much of a risk. When normal furniture, like a chair, the felt is added to allow the chair leg to slide, rather than scratch, when it moves. The pad offers no protection against grit or debris on the finished floor. If anything, it traps grit over time.

@@PianoWorksAtlanta HOLY COW!! THANK YOU!! I have beaooootiful finished wood floors and a gorgeous just-rebuilt grand piano. I want clear plastic cups - they would do on my floor, as well? Those are the ones I was thinking of. It makes me a bit nervous...

I got the caster cups for my Young Chang piano but now I got something annoying. The piano tends to rock back and forth when I am playing more dynamically and it bothers me. Any ideas on how to prevent this?
