Watch enthusiast have long enjoyed the robust and beautiful wrist watches that Rolex have produced for generations. Value retention was always an added bonus to any Rolex buyer. It has only been of recent years that the value of Rolex watches has skyrocketed and created a demand that can no longer be fulfilled. It is more difficult than any point in Rolex’s history to obtain one. Long gone are the times when one would save up for their celebrated Rolex timepiece, and simply purchase it. In todays market building a genuine relationship with an authorized Rolex dealer is vital to obtaining one at retail.
Today I break down the 3 key factors you need to keep in mind when trying to buy a Rolex at retail in 2022 and beyond.

You’re absolutely right! I picked up my new Pepsi last week from the AD. You just need good intentions when going into the watch you desire. The team at the AD will get a sense of you and definitely keep you in their mind as a potential owner, not a flipper, of these desirable models. Nice work! Brother Negroni, I think the key factors involved in this creation of a "working relationship," many people don't possess, unfortunately. "Empathy" first and foremost. The ability to put yourself in the situation or mindset, of the other person/people involved. Understanding the rationale behind this decision making process, and trying to accomodate. So many people simply, for one reason or another, lack the ability, or desire to see someone elses "POV." And equally important, is "patience." In the world today, many people just simply do not have the patience to allow the process to play out. For some people, the thought that they may not be "entitled" to buy something, simply because they have the money to, is incomprehensible. I think that the example demonstrated here, is absolutely the best approach. Cheers

Hi! I got my 114060 Submariner in March 2020 from the AD after 7 months of waiting. The AD predicted a waiting time of 3 to 6 months, after i was asking for this model for the first time. Meanwhile i did some phonecalls now and then, politely asking about the watch. I also sent an e-mail, making sure that i honestly wanted the watch just for me. I did not visit the AD by the way. ……and they kept their word and called me (one month later than predicted ) to pick up my new 114060! That‘s how things also can turn out.😁 Greetings from Austria 🇦🇹!

You are spot on. I built my relationship with the AD exactly as you suggested. I don't even live in the town but I have a 'connection' through family. So birthdays, graduation and anniversary all go to this jewelry store. You would be surprised how I have gotten exactly the watch I requested. Within months. You are killing it with your videos. Keep it up.

Sadly the multi brand ADs appear to be on the hit list of the big brands . I think the Rolex boutique model is becoming the norm or so it seems . My AD is a boutique owned by watches of Switzerland and they don’t even stock Tudor . The upside is I’ve never been offered anything I don’t want . They have been fantastic and delivered . At point of contact you’re assigned a sales associate , make good relations , give them a call every so often . It’s like any other human relationship if they like you it will go a long way .

Absolutely. They are tasked with a difficult job of selling to people who aren’t going to flip the watch. How or what is a good way of doing that?? They’re doing the best they can given an impossible task.

My story. My first Rolex was purchased in 1989. The Air King 5500. I kept that watch until around 7 years ago. I wanted a change so I traded to a 16803. Had to give that watch up. I used to walk by my current AD to get lunch. Every day. Got talking to the staff. Then got invited to try stuff on. Then boom got invited to try on the James Cameron. Bought it. After 2 years I got made redundant so the watch had to go. Got a 16600. That’s now gone to a guy who loves it. Now waiting for the call to get a Pepsi. Talk to them. Don’t expect anything. Production is relatively low and demand is high. Rolex don’t have shareholders to pay so they don’t have to increase production.

Sounds like you have a good grasp on Rolex as a whole, you understand how important their brand is and why they don’t just pump out more watches. But I always tell those who really want these watches, to just keep trying. Thanks for sharing Martyn. It’s cool how you still go to the same AD from long ago.
