I have followed your instructions and it didn't help me with the accounting homework problem. My homework is: A company reports $1,685 million expected return on pension plan assets as an offset to 2014 pension expense. Estimate what the expected return would have been had the company not changed the assumption on the expected return in 2014.

For a defined benefit pension plan aren't you supposed to add prior service cost to PBO before calculating the interest cost??

It is in accordance with US GAAP.

Current Service Cost is just a given? I am here to learn how to calculate current service cost and you just skipped it in a wink.

In an accounting course, it is usually a given. This is because service cost is typically calculated by actuaries, not accountants. The actuaries tell the accountants what the service cost is. It is definitely possible to calculate the service cost directly; as soon as I get a chance I will upload a video discussing its calculation
