Some people asked about Apple TV 4K color balance if that will be better than this or at least close, I doubt if that will be as close to the CalMan because apple TV just does the color balance, not the colorspace corrections and tone curve. CalMan takes over 150+ measurements and completed calibration in 31 minutes approximately, and Apple TV 4K with iPhone it completes within 18 seconds using FaceTime Camera :), for my next video I am going to test with CalMan software to see how good color balance is with the Apple TV color balance on the TV. The only problem is that my Autocal for HDR never comes out right and produces a much bigger error although I follow your instructions to a T. The only difference I notice is that the 15pc_HDR_1h_aac.mp4 file I am using does not show anything although yours shows gradient bars. It does activate HDR mode but it's just a black screen. Any ideas?

just wondering: I have an 2021 OLED G1 Series, and use a Spyder5 Colorimeter. At 3'49'' you speak about the session setup, and use the 'raw xyz' Profile, which I'm not able to choose in my setup. The only profiles I can choose are: LCD (CCFL), LCD (CCFL Wide Gammut) and the LCD (LED) Profiles. Which of them should I choose, or does any of them work at all?

How do you calibrate the game mode? I notice that when you play the file from the usb key, it kicks in HDR mode, but then it game mode isn't available, since that is only available to HDMI inputs. If I try to play the file with a media player like VLC for example, it doesn't trigger HDR mode and doesn't show the test pattern *scratches head*

Hi, during the calibration of the HDR Game mode, I reach a brightness peak of only 610 nits (I had 705 nits last year during my last check), I then enter the value in the Tone Mapping Upload and validate the calibration. But now I see that HGIG mode is darker than DTM OFF, like I switch from DTM OFF to ON and I feel like the highlights are not really impactful. Do you have an explanation for this thing?

I don't understand. So, that software changes the values for the TV by itself? By you giving the software the TV's IP address, the TV accepts changes though the HDMI cable? I just don't understand how the TV gives color changing access to a laptop through HDMI... Or does it do it by sending changes by WiFi (since you give it the IP address)

How does the TV save the calibration? Does it have an internal LUT or ICC type deal it saves internally on?

When you reset the picture settings and the sharpness is deafaulted back to 10 when I have it at zero is it okay to put it back to zero before I calibrate the tv? I have the same question as well for keeping the color temperature at 50 before calibration. Also should I change the roll off points to the ones you suggested from portrait display if I am calibrating a G1 instead of a C1 ? If so I’d much appreciate those suggestions for the G1. And one more question do these calibrations affect all of the hdmi inputs or does each hdmi input have to be calibrated for every single picture mode ? Like if I do calibration for Dolby vision once will it be calibrated if I watched Dolby vision on hdmi 1 or watch it on hdmi 2 and so on. Sorry if that seems dumb I just want to make sure as I am about to calibrate my Lg Oled G1 and C1 for the first time and worried about getting everything right! Hi. If I use the Datacolor Spyder 5 for calibration on LG C1 OLED, which Meter mode should I target? Only three modes are available : LCD (CCFL). LCD (CCFL WIDE GAMUT). LCD (LED).

hi i have a question i got the calibration done on my moms cx lg oled tv and now in cinema user SDR in the dark scenes of picture i see the greyscale bars like in the internal generator screen in the true blacks i dont see it what is this mean and is there anything wrong with the tv or will it go away or can i fix this i tried other settings too like the filmmaker mode isf dark and i still see it the lines especially the white only in the light dark scenes its weired when i put a bluray or 4k movie i didnt see it but i only checked for part of movie aquaman movie i think i did rec709 but on the portraits display tutorial they say change something to power 2.4 for better blacks on oled cx is this ok or not recommended instead of BT1.886 or something i cant remmber on my tv too it says 2.2 not 2.4 like the calibration says and one problem i have when calibrating the lightning lut failed something about sync so i did matrix lut and that one worked with my ipro is there away to get it to work in lightning lut also could it be vertical banding thier faint lines dont see it all the time but after i did the calibration is when i noticed it ill watch it again tonight i think it got better last night on its own the more we watched it anyway any help would be greatly appreciated

hey Mike, thanks for this. i just got a C1 as well and was wondering if calibration is necessary and if done, how much does it affect the brightness post-calibration? i believe i read somewhere that doing the calibration can unfortunately cause drops in brightness and would only make sense for those in dark viewing environments, which is not the case for me... need as much brightness as i can have lol

I think its ridiculous people pay over a thousand for a TV then need to pay extra to make the picture look right. Manufacturers need to make sure the picture is perfect straight out of the box

Hi buddy, Could I ask a few questions please? I just bought the c1 65", really delighted with the quality and TV. What mode should the TV be on when watching general TV? I was watching soccer / football last night, I noticed when the screen panned from right to left (and vice versa), the screen looked like it struggled to keep up, it resulted in part of the screen becoming blurry and pixelated, you would swear you seen double the amount of players on screen, it wasn't just limited to that part of the screen. I never noticed this on any other source, which makes me think it's something to do with fast moving sports. I disabled motion and judder, I also turned off ai picture assistance. I didn't get a chance to check the screen again as the soccer match ended by this stage. Would you have any input on this and how to resolve? If I was to calibrate the screen, does each screen mode need calibrated? If watching sports, should I use the sports mode? Would this mode also need calibrated? I'm struggle to settle on general settings, like brightness and sharpness. Dark areas are really dark and bright areas are really bright. Regarding your sdr video, Can I use those settings across all TV modes? I'm aware each TV is different and as a result, I need to tweak to my liking, but I need a base level to start from. I've been using ISF expert mode for general viewing, is this advisible? I really appreciate your help and input Thank you

I’ve repeatedly tried and can’t get it to work properly on my Mac with VMWare which Calman claims they support. It’s ridiculous that they don’t have a native Mac client in this day and age.. it calibrates the SDR modes fine - I think but the HDR and DV Calibration never works and I always have to unplug the tv for the TV to work properly afterwords - no matter what mode. The TV apparently just stays in “Calibration” mode until I unplug it.

So does the calibration only change the selected preset (e.g. Cinema, Vivid, Filmmaker, etc)? It leaves the other presets alone?

How does the pattern generator work. I am not sure how it starts and stops in sync with the calman software? Does calman control the video file pattern generator itself or do we have to manually start and stop it based on where we are in the process within the calman software?

Can it handle 100% DCI-P3 ？

The gray scale wasn't calibrated in St 2084 and you forget to put it in the de itp for better result and the shadow detail for LG OLED in the gray scale

Mike perhaps for a new video take any APple tv since 2015 and turn off Dolby vision in the settings. Pick a mode thats not saturated like Cinema mode, use the auto apple calibration feature. And then run your pro CAL MAN to test if apple is right. I think youll get a lot of hits.

im having serious issues with calibrating my lg cx with calman hone 2021 maybe you can help me i was trying calibrate in sdr standard i think my problem was i need to calibrate in cinema sdr mode not standard i got to the greyscale page the things went bad the colorimeter keeps saying error then i went to brightness and contrast page i think for color and the colorimeter idisplay pro just quit and shut down then when i went back to picture the screen was stuck green and back i tok usb out of back of tv still gren screen then i shut tv off and unplugged it and plugged back in and turned tv back on now its ok whats wrong that i am doing

I decided to go with the LGC1 65 inch , I am getting mine from Value Electronics and getting them to calibrated it for me . From a lot of other reviews about the LGG1 there isn’t that much difference between the 2 . So I saved some money with going with the C1 65 inch because I only could afford the 55 inch in the G1, plus I wasn’t able to wall mount the G1

How do you connect the c1 to the computer? HDMI?

When you start the pre cal measurements in the calman software, do you also press start on the tv to start the video (on usb) on your tv? Or does this happen automatically? :)

Great job and this is first time ever to see how that famous CalMan softwere actually work. It's strange how and why is factory calibration of this high end tv's so bad, since there is so huge margin for improvements. I think that when we buy our new tv, we should make just first small adjustments or tweak to our liking in settings and never touch it again.

Maybe just spend 169 on the new Apple TV 4K 2021 or use any Apple TV since 2015 and use auto color balance feature. They seem to be calibrating to industry standard.

I find calbriation makes the image look dull. I prefer the vibrant then simply bring the contrast down. The more dim the image gets as with Cinema, Film Mode you see the bright detail blur out rather then stand out as with Standard, Vibrant, Sport - just adjust the contrast and brightness a bit and switch off Blue mode.

How in the world is this a cheaper option? To have Best buy have a calibrator come in for you it cost roughly $300. Just to buy the equipment cost $400 plus. I might as well pay the professionals to do it.

Note depending which mode is more acurate and has the lowest delta error ile probably calibrate both isf dark and filmmaker mode to see which has the lowest delta e possible Note filmmaker out of box the colours can still be off like maybe if the red colour is more prominent that needs adjustment regardless When I get my 42inch oled LG next year ile probably get the more expensive c6 calibration tool and the software for LG and the only mode ile be using is sdr mode why become hdr is fake it is fake there is something wrong with HDR no display an display it properly anyway not till microled comes out and even then we still don't have cameras that shoot in hdr because all movies are shot flat raw footage then colour graded just like games are graded There is no such thing as true hdr meaning its bullshit and I say avoid it and make sdr as acurate as possible

force to calibrate your television, otherwise you end up with a television, unusable, I think reselling my c1 for the HZ2000 quite to make space on gaming or see the a90j but more expensive :(
