Japanese giant hornet(Asian giant hornet) is horrible.
One day in September, giant hornets attacked my Japanese honeybees.
I captured Japanese giant hornet by adhesive sheet trap to save my bees.

Good thing the hornets are not smart enough to not land on the gluetrap after seeing their comrades already stuck.

Do you have any advice on what to do when a hornet is near you? I’m super scared of them and now avoid going near forests in Japan, which is so sad since I love going hiking T_T
@IonOtter
@IonOtter Жыл бұрын
Honestly, they'll leave you alone for the most part. If you're wearing perfume, or are carrying bento or ekiben, they might be attracted to you. If there is more than one, or they start flying towards your face, then it's time to turn around and walk away quickly. You're close to the nest, and they're warning you off.

What’s great about these traps is that giant hornets send out calls to others when they’re in crisis. So that’s why the others got caught in it as well. And they’ll just keep coming.

@@syumatsuyoho That is a very smart defense and construction of the beehive to allow only bees to enter and not the hornets. It is interesting to see how violent the hornets are. Once they land on the sticky paper and try to move or take off but can't, they instantly try to sting or bite the glue - only to eventually get their abdomens and heads stuck, too. I can only imagine how fierce that kind of aggression feels upon a bee (or any other instect on the hornet's menu). Great job, Yuichi! Greetings from Serbia! ☺
