The clamp on your new baby's umbilical cord should fall off within 7 to 10 days of birth. Until then, and for days after, it's important to prevent infection by keeping the belly button area clean and dry. I’m glad to be watching as many videos as possible to make sure I do all the right things when my first baby arrives. I’ve been researching throughout the whole pregnancy and I am shocked by how many people actually don’t know this stuff.
