Sunny, may we add also one of the most misunderstood families of fish. The Betta spelndens is so popular many over look the number of other very interesting species of great aquarium fish the genus Betta has to offer, we hope we informed accordingly in the video.
@redneckbarbie5 жыл бұрын
No! A betta in a 1 gallon tank is just as abusive as a cup. Bettas need 2.5 gallons at the very least five gallons would be the best. Also those tanks are not set up for bettas. Their fins are extremely delicate and they need places to rest. Having a bare bottom tank like one of them with nothing in it is just horrible! Not only that there is no filtration or aeration in any of these tiny boxes! I would not be surprised if Fluval thought it was acceptable to tell people to keep goldfish in a 20 gallon tank too!
@corue5 жыл бұрын
@@redneckbarbie Betta fish should live in 5g tanks at least, the best is 10g.
@staalman12265 жыл бұрын
@@redneckbarbie The betta's labrynth organ makes it so you don't need aeration. One gallon is good enough if it is properly maintained by an experienced owner.
@eila43954 жыл бұрын
@Staalman12 But that doesn’t mean the Betta will like it, or live the best life. The smallest tank size you should have would be 2.5 gallons. I’d say the largest should be around 5 gallons. A 1 gallon tank is not fine. It may be fine for the owner, but not for the fish. It may be practical, easy to clean, but again, the fish won’t like it.

for the pet store its good but its wrong about betta's liking small tanks. a 5 gallon tank and up are perfect for bettas. alot of his pet stores tanks dont have heaters either and unless the room is warm the fish could die if the water is too cold. betta's can live up to 4 years if taken care of and alot of people think they have short lives because the poor fish are always cramped in tiny bowls with no filter or heater.

I love how everyone’s complaining that this pet store keeps them in one gallons. But every other one uses CUPS!!!! Proves no one will ever be satisfied or happy with anything 😂
@robynsmith605 жыл бұрын
At least from what I've seen, people aren't complaining about the conditions in the store per say. But instead people are saying that it's bad advice, which it is. If you're going to give your betta a permanent home, it seems like the consensus of people in the hobby is that each betta should have at least 2.5 gallons to live in, whereas this video is trying to say that it's okay to house them in small, one gallon tanks for their entire lives, which, at least according to most hobbyists I've seen talking about the subject(here and on other betta videos) is not enough to comfortably house a betta for it's entire life. Point being: the fact that this store houses it's bettas in 1 gallon tanks isn't the problem, it's actually really nice to see them taking the extra effort! The problem is them trying to sell 1 gallon tanks as acceptable for permanent housing to the public.

My little brother just got his first betta, and he's a small blue feathertail from Petco (Not my idea to get a pet store fish but he's here now!) and we basically set him up in a 1 gallon tank with 2-3 fake plants and a castle structure to hide in and a bed of river stones. After seeing this video I can tell we have a LOT to learn about proper betta care! I think first order of business will be more frequent water changes and add a moss ball and next change the bedding to something more natural and thinner so Gillbert has some more swimming space for now. As the people here have said, 1 gallon is way too small of a tank so def going to look into a 5 gallon but for now, we'll just get Gillbert used to his new environment and make him more comfortable around us

I feel that Bettas could get a bit more then one gallon. In my opinion 2.5 gal is ideal as larger quantities of water are easier to maintain..especially for beginners. I'd love it if these tanks came with a gentle filter and heater. I think that it would be easier for beginner fish-keepers to maintain a steady temperature as well as stable water parameters. Instead of full water changes every 2-3 days ..with a filter partial water changes could be made and the filter will help maintain the water quality. My concern is that after cleaning the ammonia levels are zero and then they will build up and spike as the small tank never gets a chance to cycle. Therefore the fish never gets stability. Sure ..they are bred to deal with it.. but I feel like we can provide a better habitat in captive settings. Beyond that I love your products and what you guys do at Fluval. Keep up the good work!

@Diya Roka- where did you hear that? Bettas like large bodies of water that are heavily planted. They need spots to hide as well as spots to swim and exercize. In the wild they have shallow, heavily planted water that goes on for miles. Miles aren’t small spaces. Stop twisting the truth to have an excuse to abuse bettas because you are too lazy to actually do research.
@ihateeverythingisgood81385 жыл бұрын
Diya Roka they like shallow waters seen as they are surface dwelling fish mainly because they’re prey is either on the surface or out of the water but they live in extremely long rivers in the wild

Bettas I think are one of the most common fish to get for new fish keepers and also has probably one of the toughest jobs of correct information to them as well. I have always hated how the majority of fish stores keep the betta in the little container, I know they are hard to store in mass amounts but surely there was a better way to store them. I generally would recommend a 5.5-gallon tank as a good tank size for a single betta however if you do it correctly, you can have a betta in tanks down to .5 gallons, though I wouldn't recommend keeping them there long term. I think they do best in 2.5-5.5 gallon tanks and can do great in larger shallow tanks as well!

I have two, my first one is a year old and I just got one today. My new one is TEMPORARILY kept in a bowl because they ran out of the ones like you have. My first one is a blue one named Charlie and my new one is a blue mustard named Archie, like riverdale.

Thanks for a great video! I loved every second of it , and I also loved that you have them in proper individual tanks , even with soft lights, instead of bowls or the small cups. I've never seen some of those wild varieties, amazing, so beautiful.

Thank you! We appreciate the comment and the fact you enjoyed the other species of wild bettas in this video, most of them did spawn in fact. There are currently 73 recognized betta species, while Betta splendens is a stunning fish there is a lot more to the world of Bettas!!

6:51 omg that Betta looks exactly like mine. He is a Veiltail Male and he lives in my room in a 3.1 gallon tank with a filter and a heater and he has the best personality. I named him Lapis because of the color :)
@UnkindledIncandescent4 жыл бұрын
That's the same color and species of my baby brothers betta, I took it away with his permission and put it on a cleaner and larger tank and it's planted with real plants he looks healthier now.

Good to hear, all species of bettas will benefit in a number of ways from live plants.
@cabbage99266 жыл бұрын
Few tips. all my Bettas seem to like bushier plants that they can nestle in like wisteria. Moneywort is sturdy enough that they rest on it. When you buy stemmed plants space them out a little bit until they adjust to your tank conditions. Eventually you can bring em closer together.

Thank you! I've owned bettas most of my life (I think this new betta is my 5th), but I've never had live plants until now. I'll take your advice. My betta seems to really enjoy resting in between the plants I have now.

Doug Loscheider I’m looking at getting something like a skull for my little guy. I have a silky plastic plant in there that he rests in every now and then.

Tom that was a great video. Cleared up some confusion I had on the Delta, Halfmoon thing. I love the gravel that you used in the tanks, a type that I have never been able to find. Do you know where I could buy that type?
@fluval7 жыл бұрын
Mark, thank you! It was a video I really enjoyed doing. The gravel in the Marina Cubus betta tanks is black beach gravel as was marketed under our now no longer really existing Geo System brand...unfortunately probably almost impossible to find in Canada only at this point.

i have looked at the Fluval Edge Aquarium, it looks amazing and is my first choice, but reviews say that this tank isnt good for bettas becuse it means to be filled all the way and bettas need to breath air. Is that true?
@fluval7 жыл бұрын
Bettas have gills like other fish to breathe dissolved oxygen as well as being able to use their labyrinth organ to take in oxygen by gulping it at the waters surface, no that is not true.

Just bought one couple weeks ago and the Pet Valu store employees didn't know hardly anything. Got him home and a few days later found out water heater was needed. Always do research before purchasing. Trying hard to keep my little buddy alive.

QUESTION: i bought a betta that was labeled baby male. it is growing out its tale but is getting points on the top and bottom tail. how do you know if its going to be a crown tail vs getting tail rott? it acts totally healthy. making a big bubble nest. swims to me for attention. so seems good health.
@marlonvasquez65317 жыл бұрын
scoobydoo316us if the fins look ragged and have holes, could be fin rot, if all indents are equal and Don't change, and there is no distinct color change, it is a crowntail

Fluval is awesome i love their nano tanks. The only complaint i have is the filter flow was way to strong for my betta, even on the lowest setting. However, i got creative with a piece of sponge and that took care of the problem. I have both the 2.5 and the fluval spec. Both are really awesome little tanks, quiet and really sleek looking. Will be purchasing more products from them again. Thanks :)
@fluval7 жыл бұрын
Hey Whitney, that is pretty creative, thanks for sharing. Bettas love floating live aquatic plants, if you wish a clump of floating hornwort for example can also serve to diffuse water current while providing the benefits live aquatic plants do, shelter and water quality support....
