Thank you for answering my questions regarding the care of my mom's Steinway baby grand piano, and your directions were totally in agreement with how we were taught to care for cleaning it! I wanted to be sure I was rights. Every step is perfect. Adding one piece of advice for new-piano owners- a mistake I did make , placing at Christmas time one year, the little turning angel-piece from Switzerland that is propelled to fly around in a circle by the heat of the 4 tiny candles beneath her. I overlooked how fast that thin brass conducted blistering heat, and I knew better. Live and learn! At least it was brief exposure, but did superficial damage. (I did see a Christmas photo in an album in B &W, in the '50's, when Mama and Daddy newly wed and in first home had a cocktail Christmas party singing around the piano- though she preached no drinks or anything atop the piano I noticed a cocktail glass set atop it! lol She was a perfect hostess I am certain, and watched that friend's drink all night! ). Thanks again!

It's hard to believe that people need to be told not to put plants and drinks on their grand pianos but they do, unbelievable but true.

lol exactly, right?? That was one of THE first things I learned growing up in our household with Mama's Steinway baby grand, and I can still hear her saying do NOT let anyone put ANYTHING on the top of the piano. Ha, I saw a picture when she and my dad had it in their first house after marrying, having a Christmas party, with a couple of 1950's cocktails were around the piano! I saw the photos after she had died awhile back. My sister and took piano lessons, and we had cleaning-duties on each Saturday of our whole house - including the piano. This man's advice is to the TEE of perfection, down to cleaning the white ivories, and not waxing or spraying anything on the surface of the wooden areas, nor clean the interior. Great description, head to toe. I add here one tip that seems obvious, but like the careless but rare placing of a drink atop it, thus it could spill, it can happen following note- do NOT ever place any even protected, burning candles atop the surface for decoration. Though I am ultra-careful, I once did put our brass, Christmas Swedish traditional tiny candled turning angel who moved from the heat of the 4 small burning candles. I never thought to put something that does not conduct heat under it, and then a bottom layer of a cloth that is fairly sturdy to not scratch the surface with the protective piece underneath it. It is a bad blister. We all make mistakes! (btw, thinking though my grandparents were traditional, post- WWII couple w/ decent home, antiques, but she sewed, needlepointed, housewife and did EVERYTHING while he was chief engineer in a large mill. Still I have no clue how they bought such a beautiful heirloom on their budget. If so, it was made in the 30's? It could have been older if they had gotten it from their parents. Take care, Thomas Terszkiewicz !~

I’ve got a full grand bosendorfer and I accidentally dropped coffee on it, the keys and the wood got sticky I think it’s because of the sugar, because it happened the same when I dropped some orange juice on it 3 months ago, the mechanisms got sticky as well, I’m waiting to see if perhaps the stickiness will go away or maybe I need some product to use on it, since I’m worried about the ants that infested the piano maybe because of the sugar of the coffee mixed with the orange smell, I need advice, thank you

I’ve been putting lotion on my hands and I notice the keys have some greasy feel after a while. How do we get rid of that?

General Rule: For ivory keys, water and toothpaste. For other keys, dishsoap and water. Careful not to spill anything on the wood in between. Just look at the instructions that came with your specific model.

Just bought a 1910 Bechstein with what looks like Ketchup stains on the ivory. Any suggestions on what to do to clean up. Thanks.

Sharpee paint markers but use only for small scratches

Anime Wins - I don't think I'll be trying that suggestion, even if it wasn't a joke :)
