I had to rescue a struggling ZZ plant from a coworker who didn't know you need drainage holes in your pot. It's taken over two years, but it's a thing of beauty now!

I've been obsessing over my zz recently, with three new growth points, a bit shocking considering I've had this plant for like a year and a half and it's the first time I'm seeing so much growth, honestly, perfect timing with this video, giving the good old zz some well deserved love!!

How to care for a zz plant: do nothing. Dont water it. Don’t touch it. Don’t look at it. Don’t even give it light. Ignore the plant.

I overwatered my first and the tuber rotted out. I cut all the mushy parts off and put some cinnamon on it and now it’s thriving now that I know how to take care of it!

I love ZZ's! I have a cute zenzi, a pretty raven and my current pride and joy: a one-leaf variegata cutting that I babied so much. A few days ago it started growing a new shoot and I am exciteddddd!

My ZZ was my first plant ever, and even after accumulating a few hundred more plants after her she’s still a favourite of mine! I’ve had *zero* issues with her and I’ve had her for a few years now

I love my ZZ plants. I have 6 green, Raven and Zenzi. I have propagated them but leaf and stem. They sure taught me a lesson in patience. Mine seem to grow better in winter. I am here in Philly.

ZZ, from my experience, love lots of light, a snug pot, and a thorough water when the soil is completely dry. Along with warm temps and decent humidity, they really take off! I only have one that has been slow to put off new growth but the first new stalk was variegated so I'm not mad at all. Other than that one, mine grow pretty quickly especially when they're outside in the summer where they get about 3-4 hours of direct sun.

I have my ZZ in a 10 inch terracotta pot. It grew like lightning when I first bought it, like a new shoot every week, then it stopped. I tend to water once a month, or in 5 weeks ( when the pot feels light). I have had fungus knats, but then I started bottom watering and the knats stopped.

if i may add a sidebar here- in my travels, zz's foliage have a tendency to really gather dust. especially my zz raven. i use a dampened micro fiber cloth, and, yes, go one leaf by one to clean-constantly moving the cloth, as the dust mucks it up quick. if i may, avoid those leaf shine sprays

My favorite 🪴💚I recently moved my large green ZZ from my in front of my NE window ….(It was getting a bit of direct morning sun and stems were getting blotchy) to a NW corner between two windows. At first I noticed two tiny stems turned yellow and died and I said to myself….don’t panic! I don’t overwater so maybe it was just the change IDK but now I noticed I’m getting 7 new growth points!!! 👍 It’s unreal…I was planning on repotting in the spring because the plant is very large in a medium size terracotta pot but it must be okay to be in such production mode. I don’t fertilize but I did add a little soil to cover some of the tubers that are on the top. My Raven is just hanging out with nothing new happening since I bought it 10 months ago, but it’s a great plant and if you don’t have one buy yourself a gift.

Just finished watering + cleaning my ZZ. I often forget about it and then I notice the 2 new growth points. Saw 1 at a business in a huge pot - at least 20 inch diameter and the stalks were about 2 feet long. Thought it was fake it looked so good. Scared to imagine the $!

It's the easiest houseplant to grow IF YOU FORGET TO WATER YOUR PLANTS!! I killed 3 of these (and kept much more difficult plants alive) before I realised I really had to let it get desert dry. Now I have the care down, but I think a caveat should be there for those of us that like to water our plants!

I used to have a huge, thriving ZZ in my hallway. Perfect dim light, no direct sunlight or real natural light to speak of. Only watered it when I remembered it existed. But family insisted on using it as a tray for keys, sunglasses, toys, whatever they wanted. The plant didn't like that so I had to move it. Unfortunately the only place I have is a fairly light one, although not direct sunlight it's still way too light for a ZZ. It's now wilting and has yellow leaves from the family over watering it (it gets watered with the rest of the plants in the living room). Poor thing. I need to do something to save her. I may have to put her in the bathroom, but the humidity there is too high.

I was gifted a raven zz from my friend but my cats kept knocking it over so I had it in water for a while because the soil just all fell and I was lazy 😅 I thought she was dead and had it in my bathroom graveyard when I was finally throwing the corpses out and noticed it had a growing point. Girl did NOT want to die lol.

You should move your ZZ closer to light, your stalks are already leaning. These plants grow upright when receiving bright indirect light. With any plant if you desire growth move closer to bright light and water it.
@Neuchowski
@Neuchowski 2 жыл бұрын
I have one in low light that grows perfectly upright because the pot is snug and the roots are very secure. When I repotted the offsets some of them started to lean due to their roots being looser and having some extra space in the pot. It really likes to be well supported around the base I’ve found.
