Welcome back to another walking stick wood carving video. In this one I recreated my first walking stick pattern, the Basketweave or Celtic Knot. This one started as a large diameter Butternut stick. In the video I take you through the steps I followed to carve the details and designs into this beauty. Finished off with some Teak oil and paste wax and you can see the dark beautiful grain.

Over in the UK we are particularly in Wales we are proud of our Celtic roots. In Scotland they have a football team called Celtic the same way you pronounce it... However the Celtic not, or anything to do with the Celts is pronounced " Keltic " Thanks for the video and the tips. A very nice therapeutic tutorial not overly long or complicated. Hi Jason. I made my walking staff by carving spirals toward the top much like a barber pole. But I went through to the other side. Much like a 3-dimensional spiral with a hollow inside. I don't have your skill with planes, etc, so used a drill and a Dremel with various bits and sandpaper. Thanks for your videos.

Really beautiful stick. I did a similar design with a nice piece of Juniper. Carving through the gazillion knots wasn't easy but the end result was worth the effort. I lost it at Thanksgiving when my Kerosene heater blew up. I couldn't save it because saving my home was more important. If it wasn't burned so badly I could have offered a photo.

@@JasonHedrich It will be a while before I can get out in the woods and find a suitable Juniper tree. It's winter here in upstate N.Y. I am an "Old Guy" (73) I did just cut down 2 Sugar Maple saplings that are a few years old. They are the perfect diameter for a couple of carvable walking sticks and a couple bent canes. I have enjoyed relief carving for about 50 years. Not a Professional but it is relaxing and fulfills one of my artistic interests.

Absolutely beautiful and fun to watch. By the way, Celtic is pronounced as if the’C’ is a ‘K’. Such a talent. I have to try this some time.

That's awesome, looks like something the leader of a marching band would carry, I wish I had a tenth of your patience.

Thank you very much! It’s easy to get lost in the process but the time passes quickly and the results were worth the effort. Would have been a bit quicker with a softer wood, but the grain was beautiful in this one. Thanks for watching
