Amazing! I never seen water soluble paint demo! I originally started in oils 60 years ago. Over the years, after having children I had to give up my beloved oil paints. I had tried painting in several different mediums. I succeeded in my endeavors but, was limited with acrylics because of raising 3 young boys. They dried too fast between their squabbles. Watercolor proved to be the best option 40 years ago. Now I may try these water soluble oil paints. Thank you both!

Would you advise whether a beginner would find it easier to get into' oil painting by kicking off with water mixable as a starter to the medium ?
@bbbspryte
@bbbspryte 5 ай бұрын
both traditional oil and water mixable oil can be used by beginners. You can paint with them in the same way. The difference being ableto use water as a medium and clean up with the water mixable paints.

Love your work Beth. I am an oil painter and tried your technique of using a squeegee and other mark making tools on my gessoed canvas. I used transparents but could not get a crisp line regardless of what tool I used also the underlying colour showed through my marks. What am I doing wrong? Should I use another substrate?
@bbbspryte
@bbbspryte 5 ай бұрын
Yes, try harder substrate. I use Ampersand gessobords or similar. The hardness of the board allows better contact with the squeegee. I also slightly oil my boards prior to painting (with WMO Artisan Safflower oil, or Cobra Safflower oil) so that paints do not stain the substrate

I absolutely love this demo and can not wait to try this style. This looks like a terrific balance between palette knife painting and brush painting. One of the best videos yet! Thanks Beth and Eric! My concern with water soluable oil piants is longevity. I love them for doing studies, painting for myself and for practice. I personally would not be comfortable doing a commission in them or selling anything for a substantial amount of money. Would love to hear any information on this matter. Would also be curious as to the benfit of WSO compared to Casein which is one of the oldest paints. There are more studies questioning the long term viability of acrylic paints as well. Of course being that something like 90% of artwork historically ends up in a dump I guess it really will not matter..lol. I am sure much of my palette knife pop art will end up there as well. I am hoping my traditional oil paintings do not.
