How to cast on knit stitches using a crochet hook

This is an easy way to cast on knitting stitches using a crochet hook. It works great when you have a lot of stitches to cast on. It is also a way to avoid using a long tail cast on. Hi, thanks for showing this. I think I learned this several years back when I was trying to learn knitting from a booklet and it was the only option that I could understand. I have been crocheting for a long time and it made sense to me to do this cast on.

This is great. I am starting a couple of projects and will definitely be trying this. I learned to knit in high school using 2 knitting needles to cast on but this will definitely save a step in the process.

Thank you for your gift of making clear tutorials. This (plus stitch markers every ten) made it SO much easier to cast on many stitches for a bottom up project. I was NOT looking forward to figuring out how much yarn would be needed for that long tail cast on.

This is incredible! One of the things I struggled with on knitting is the cast on because I do it so tightly - it got to a point where I had to cast onto a bigger needle to make sure my first row wasn't so cramped. I hope this helps me with future knitting projects and lets me have more control of the work, thank you!

Thank you for this. I am an avid crocheter and desire to add knitting back into my skill set. This is a great way to combine both! Have never seen casting on like this before but I can see that I will probably be using this technique as I re-learn the art of knitting. It has been so many years that I have forgotten how to knit. Thank you for this tutorial! I originally learned crochet from my Nana as a small girl, and later taught myself to knit 20 years ago as an adult. The knitting cast on method I learned involves using both knitting needles, and is - for me - very time-consuming and inefficient. I've never been able to master the long-tail cast on, but was going to give it another try until I saw your video. I already use my crochet hooks to cast off my knitting, and any time I can make use of my hooks, it makes knitting just a little bit easier for me. Not only does this method allow me an excuse to get out my hooks, but it seems to me that I can keep better count of my cast on stitches than the method I've been using for 20 years. I recently decided to start making items that are more difficult than what I'm used to, so my cast on stitches count is increasing, and I can't take hours just to get my needle loaded! Thank you again for explaining this very understandably for both crocheters and knitters!
