Great video! Back when I live in So. Cal during my Navy days, charter boat captains would routinely use live squid if they could get their hands on them. Wonderful bait. I've been planning on trying this method in Puget Sound. I'm pretty sure it will work. I'm curious if you've ever used live anchovies or sardines for Salmon. When I was a kid, we used to fly-line live bait for Coho - basically put a hook in it's back and free spool the thing when we fished off the docks - it worked very well if fish were around. We also used that technique in So. Cal for local species there - tuna/dorado/yellowtail etc. . I've googled it and checked on KZfaq but it seems no one is doing that in the PNW. Have you ever heard of it or tried it?

How's that for 23 years of fishing. I'm also the one guy who has had a sockeye-halibut double header. Figure that one out.lol chow

Those reels just don’t make sense. They look fun to use but man that ratio of 1/1 with that already small diameter spool is just too slow.
