On my main river, it flows fast with the tide. Could I drift with the tide, drop anchor, cast, raise and drift, drop and cast?

Hey @bigglyguy8429, your prime time to target them may be around the slack stages of the tide, when you can effectively work structure. Alternatives would be to focus on areas where there is breaks in the current and eddies form as this will be easier to fish and fish will hold there waiting to ambush predators. Neap tides with less flow may also allow more opportunities to effectively fish structure. If all else fails you could do exactly what you describe, targeting the prime jack holding structure in your river, or you could deploy a weight / drag anchor to slow your drift. All the best with the fishing. Cheers, Justin

@@tackletacticstv7687 A dragging anchor, to go slow... smart idea! Regarding slack periods, I'd prefer that, as I'm sure the fish would, my problem is where I keep my boat is just mud unless the tide is quite high. Means I can only go fishing on days where the tide is pretty high and fast.

@@bigglyguy8429 It sounds like you just need to make the most of what you have and anchoring or a drag anchor may be the go. The best thing about things not being in your favour and working for the fish is that when you get one it will be an awesome reward and great achievement. Sending big fish vibes. Cheers, Justin

Hey @warrenbrown511, Andrew runs about a rod length of leader for most species, including mangrove jack. (Approx. 7'/ 2.1m). All the best with the fishing. Cheers, Justin

What is the status of Jacks from Fisheries Management around Southern Queensland? Are they a threatened species? I ask this because every time I see a vid from world class fishermen they always talk about putting the time in and the need for patience and they always get no more than one in the boat. Or is it just the Jack is a canny adversary and has been around the block a few times and knows one imitation plastic from another?Anyway liked the vid and what a nice fish.

There's plenty of jacks around mate, it's just in the estuaries they are hard to catch and even harder to land . When they get to a descent size they move out to the reefs where they are way more plentiful and easier to catch. They are just like jewies mate, really hard to catch but there's plenty of them if you know where to look. Also harder to get on lures than live bait aswell.
