Want to see the easiest and fastest way to catch a bunch of mangrove snapper (that the entire family can enjoy)? Then you've got to see this.
The best news is that you don't have to go offshore to catch a bunch of mangrove snapper.
Yes, the mangrove snapper will be bigger offshore on the wrecks and ledges, but if your goal is a quick and easy way to get tight lines for everyone on your boat (and even take home a little to eat), then this is the best way to do it.
In fact, we go LIVE just to show you how easy it can be to catch mangrove snapper.
And not only did we catch a lot of fish, but Luke did a lot of teaching, too!
You’ll learn:
- the 3 things you need to catch a high volume of fish
- what most people do that causes them to lose lots of shrimp (and come up emptyhanded)
- how to position your boat and where to cast your bait to catch more fish
- when this type of fishing is NOT a good idea
- bridge fishing mistakes
- and much more
Have any questions about this type of fishing?
Have any requests for other types of fishing trips we should go on for these live podcasts?

You are correct in using shrimp to catch a bunch of inshore snappers but if you want to catch keeper 10-15” inshore snappers, use 2-4” threadfind shad. Sometimes snappers like threadfins alive, sometimes dead. Scaled sardines, small pin fish and small mojarra work too but not as well as threadfins. Minnows work well but are more difficult to freeline cast and hard to keep alive on the hook. Shrimp maybe for volume but baitfish for keeper snappers!

Love the vid. The difference between catching legal ones consistently and those small ones is your choice of bait. Crusher jigs tipped with your choice of bait, I won’t give away mine, will allow you to pitch your baits in any area you want and drop the bait with enough weight to get the larger ones at the bottom.

I prefer bullet weights for this type of fishing because they are less likely to get snagged on the bottom. Otis is not invited whenever we have expensive camera gear on board:)

Wait...@ 26:30 you say "I have a 20lb mono leader. I don't mess around with that fluoro anymore after testing it. It seems bogus." So, you're not using fluoro for any kind of inshore stuff now? What type of mono are you using generally speaking? Thanks guys
@Saltstrong
@Saltstrong 4 жыл бұрын
You heard correct... I've been switching back and forth between fluoro and mono for the past couple years, and I have not noticed a difference between the two. So I now just go mostly with traditional mono since it's so much less expensive and it has proven to have a stronger knot stregth as well as more abrasion resistance to the overpriced and overhyped fluoro. Here's a link to see the many line tests we've done in our quest to find the best line for inshore fishing: www.saltstrong.com/article_categories/fishing-lines/

@@Saltstrong Thanks for the reply guys, that's music to my ears! Tbh, I have been experimenting with the same thing on my lighter tackle set ups fishing for mangroves, whiting (my wife's fav fish to eat) and sand pearch here in Charlotte Harbor. I haven't noticed ANY difference in bite rate or break offs. I was worried to try it with the more sought after fish but, not anymore. On a side note: The wet noodle walmart style rods are actually perfect for inshore trolling mack's and picking up the occasional snook or trout in the canals while idling out to the harbor. My wife, the dog and I take a sunset cruise out to the harbor almost every night and we almost always have a wet noodle dragin' something behind the boat. Tight lines gentlemen.

Chumming works for inshore mangos just as well as it does offshore. A chumbag and free lined chunks are deadly wherever they live. The only drawback is that catfish can give you fits in the warmer months.

@Saltstrong
@Saltstrong 4 жыл бұрын
Can you please help me understand what you mean by letting it kick a little? Are you suggesting that the weight is just kept away from the hook to give the shrimp some room to move around?
@amblo51
@amblo51 4 жыл бұрын
Salt Strong im thinking you could run the hook in just ahead of the tail through the shell, might have to offset from center some, come out the bottom and back in like you’re doing and the weight would slide down just in front of the tail. May or may not be effective. But might extend bait life
